PLEASANTVILLE, N.Y. – Led by one of their best defensive performances of the year, the Pace University women's basketball team earned a 59-45 win over Assumption College on Saturday afternoon. The Setters, who have now won four of their last five games, move to 5-5 inside the Northeast-10 Conference this season.
Inside the Numbers
*
Alexandra Monteleone (Cold Spring, NY/Haldane) led the Pace offense with a game-high 18 points. She was especially impressive early on, scoring 13 of Pace's first 24 points of the game. Monteleone chipped in a season-high seven rebounds as well.
*
Jackie DelliSanti (Commack, NY/Commack) and
Brianna Wong (River Vale, NJ/Pascack Valley) also each tallied double-figure efforts to assist the Pace attack. DelliSanti put in 12 points, to go along with eight rebounds, three assists and three steals, while Wong tallied 11 points and three boards.
*Freshman
Lauren Hackett (Commack, NY/St. Anthony's) put together another all-around solid effort for the Blue and Gold, finishing with nine points, four rebounds and four steals. Senior
Stefanie Svoboda (Ossining, NY/Ossining) matched Hackett's team-high four assists in the contest.
*Pace's defense told the story of the game as the Setters limited Assumption to 19-of-58 shooting from the field (32.8 percent), including 3-of-15 (20 percent) from long range. The Setters also forced 13 turnovers, and racked up nine steals.
How it Happened
The Setters used a hot start to set the tone on Saturday. Pace knocked in 4-of-5 from three-point range in the first quarter en route to building up a 12-point late after one. Monteleone, Hackett and Wong all hit long balls in the first 10 minutes.
Pace remained sharp in the second quarter as the lead ballooned all the way up to 18 points at the 4:08 mark. An old-fashioned three-point play from Hackett followed by a
Lauren Schetter (Beacon, NY/Beacon High School) layup capped off a 12-2 run. The Setters would go on to take an 11-point lead at the break.
The Blue and Gold's lead never dipped below double figures the rest of the way, and even stretched back out to 18 in the third quarter, and then to a game-high 19 in the fourth.
The Setters allowed just seven points in the third quarter alone as Assumption shot 25-percent (8-of-32) from the field across the final 20 minutes of the game.
Up Next
The Setters hit the road once again during the mid-week, traveling to face Saint Anselm College on Wednesday night.
