How it Happened
The Chargers opened up the game with a pair of touchdowns in the first quarter, but a missed PAT attempt after the first score and a blocked kick by
Dan Pelish (Poughquag, NY/Arlington) on the second attempt kept the New Haven lead at 12-0 heading into the second quarter.
Â
Continuing their drive from the end of the first quarter, the Setters' offense was able to march down the field for a touchdown of their own. Simmons connected with Jones for a 23-yard completion in the end zone to put the Setters on the board. Following another New Haven touchdown, the Setters drove into the Chargers red zone, leading to Davis' 24-yard field goal. The Chargers added a kick of their own as the half expired to send them into the locker room with a 22-10 lead.
Â
The Chargers would add to their lead with a touchdown in each quarter of the second half. The Setters, meanwhile, got into turnover trouble in the fourth, as a fumble and interception ended Pace drives on the New Haven side of the field. The Chargers put the ball into the end zone again with 2:36 left on the clock, putting New Haven ahead with the eventual final of 36-10.
