Big Fourth Quarter Lifts Pace Football Past AIC, 27-7

SPRINGFIELD, Mass. – Hitting the road for the first time in conference play, the Pace University football team took home a 27-7 triumph over American International College on Saturday afternoon. The win moves the Setters' record to 2-1 this season.

Inside the Numbers
*Trailing 7-6 in the fourth quarter, the Setters tallied 21 points over the game's final 11:08 of regulation. AIC led for 15 seconds in the game while Pace held a 6-0 advantage across nearly 50 minutes of game time.

*It was Pace's defense and rushing attack that were once again on center stage for the Setters on Saturday. Jhalen Bien-Aime's (Dorchester, MA/Bridgton Academy) 124 yards and a touchdown highlighted a running game that racked up more than 200 yards. Freshman Antonio Giannico (Mahopec, NY/Archbishop Stepinac) supplemented the attack with a season-best 53 yards, to go along with his first-career touchdown.

*On the other side, the Setters' defense racked up seven tackles-for-loss, nine pass break-ups and a pair of interceptions. In addition, AIC managed to finish just 7-of-17 on third down and 0-for-3 on fourth-down attempts.

*Senior captain Kadeem Langhorne (Baldwin, NY/Baldwin) led Pace in the tackles department with nine, including a half sack. Classmate Dan Pelish (Poughquag, NY/Arlington) was also strong in the front seven with six tackles and a team-high 1.5 tackles-for-loss.

*Junior Darius Jones (Bethlehem, PA/Liberty) provided Pace with a huge spark in the fourth quarter with an 80-yard kick-off return for a touchdown after the Setters went down 7-6.

How it Happened
Following nearly 28 minutes of scoreless action to begin the game, the Setters finally broke through near halftime. Giannico rumbled in from two yards out for his first-career touchdown. He capped off a 12-play 74-yard scoring drive from Pace, highlighted by a fake punt on fourth-and-three from their own 47-yard line.

Pace's 6-0 edge would last all the way into the fourth quarter before a 28-yard touchdown toss from AIC quarterback Prince Olubakinda put the home team up 7-6 with 11:08 remaining in regulation.

The Yellow Jackets' advantage wouldn't last long as Jones would take the ensuing kick-off 80 yards for a touchdown. Bien-Aime followed with a two-point conversion run to put the Setters back up 14-7 with 10:53 left in the game.

The Blue and Gold would tack onto their lead with two more touchdown drives in the fourth. Junior Carlton Aiken (Gibbstown, NJ/Paulsboro) provided the first score, registering his first-career touchdown pass. The junior found Adrian Rybaltowski (Howell, NJ/Freehold Township) from 25 yards out to provide Pace a 20-7 lead at the 8:38 mark. The Setters' offense was set up on AIC's 37-yard line after an interception from Andrew Roach (Clinton, Md./Arundel Senior).

Pace's final score came less than four minutes later as Bien-Aime scampered in from seven yards out to cap off the offense for the day. The Blue and Gold's last scoring march was kick-started by a fourth-down stop at AIC's own 43-yard line.
