Pace Volleyball Completes Homestand Sweep with 3-1 Win over SCSU

PLEASANTVILLE, N.Y. – The Pace University women's volleyball team completed the sweep of their four-match homestand on Friday night, earning a 3-1 win (25-20, 25-27, 25-15, 25-21) over Southern Connecticut State. The victory, Pace's fifth in a row, moves the Setters to 5-0 on the season at the Goldstein Fitness Center. The Blue and Gold now stand at 10-2 (2-0 NE10) on the year.

The Setters recorded a season-high 63 kills in the victory, led by a combined 37 putaways from Claudia Fontanet (Bayamon, Puerto Rico/Academia Maria Reina) and Tatjana Calimpong-Burke (Waianae, HI/Iolani). The duo each had season-best tallies in the kill column with Fontanet's 19 and Calimpong-Burke's 18.

Pace's assist leaders of Samantha Nidini (Houston, TX/Clearlake) and Katy Motz (Cedar Park, TX/Cedar Park) continued to make plays on the attack, combining for 46 of the Blue and Gold's 51 helpers. The 27 assists from Nidini was a new season-best.

On the defensive side, four Setters reached double-figures in the digs column. Led by a career-high 19 digs from Christal Wong (Elk Grove, CA/Cosumnes Oaks), Calimpong-Burke, Danielle Vaiano (Seaford, NY/St. Anthony's), and Emily Cockell (Springfield, MO/Kickapoo) each registered 12 or more digs in the match.

The Setters recorded six blocks in the contest compared to the Owls' four. Kathleen Benson (Kings Park, NY/Kings Park) was credited with a team-leading four.

After dropping the second set to bring the match to 1-1, the Setters closed out the contest with a pair of above-.300 hitting percentages in the final two frames to secure the win.

It's right back to action for the Setters tomorrow as they return to the road for the first time since Sept. 8. Pace will play at Chestnut Hill at 4 p.m.
