PLEASANTVILLE, N.Y. – Playing at the Goldstein Fitness Center for the first time in 2018, the Pace University volleyball team treated the home faithful to a 3-0 sweep victory against Concordia College on Friday night.
The Setters, who improve to 3-1 with the win, have now earned a sweep in all three of their victories to begin the season. Never facing a deficit larger than a single point, the Blue and Gold dominated the sets, 25-11, 25-14, 25-18, en route to victory.
Inside the Numbers
*For a third straight match, junior
Tatjana Calimpong-Burke (Waianae, HI/Iolani) led the Pace attack, recording nine kills in the contest. She now leads the team with 38 putaways this season.
*Senior
Claudia Fontanet (Bayamon, Puerto Rico/Academia Maria Reina) added eight kills for the Setters, while freshman
Sandra Yang (Bothell, WA/Edmonds-Woodway) chipped in seven of her own.
*Junior libero
Danielle Vaiano (Seaford, NY/St. Anthony's) was all over the defensive side of the ball, recording 18 digs—her highest total so far in the young season.
*A pair of Setters in
Katy Motz (Cedar Park, TX/Cedar Park) and
Samantha Nidini (Houston, TX/Clearlake) reached double-figures in assists on the night. The freshman Motz set a new career-best with her 14 helpers. Nidni's 11 assists makes it four straight matches for the junior with double-digit assists to begin the season, leading the Blue and Gold with 65.
*Calimpong-Burke, Vaiao, and
Christal Wong (Elk Grove, CA/Cosumnes Oaks) each recorded a pair of service aces. Wong leads the Blue and Gold with 10 aces the season.
*The Setters combined for a team .430 hitting percentage, including a team-best .571 mark from Calimpong-Burke
