CALDWELL, N.J. – The Pace University volleyball team rallied from a one-set deficit on Tuesday night to earn a 3-1 victory at Caldwell University. The comeback win moves the Setters' record to 4-1 this season.
In their tightest match of the season, the Setters showed off great balance against the Cougars.
Claudia Fontanet (Bayamon, Puerto Rico/Academia Maria Reina),
Tatjana Calimpong-Burke (Waianae, HI/Iolani) and
Sandra Yang (Bothell, WA/Edmonds-Woodway) all reached double figures in kills, while five different Setters registered at least one service ace. The setting duties were also a team effort as
Katy Motz (Cedar Park, TX/Cedar Park) and
Samantha Nidini (Houston, TX/Clearlake) each recorded nearly identical assist totals at 22 and 23 respectively.
To go along with the balance, the Blue and Gold were also extremely efficient. Pace posted a .264 hitting percentage with Yang leading the way at .526.
The Setters' defensive effort included a season-best 69 digs and four solo blocks. Fontanet led the way in the digs department with 18 en route to her first double-double of the season. Nidini (23 assists, 12 digs) and Calimpong-Burke (14 kills, 10 digs) also came away with double-doubles.
Danielle Vaiano (Seaford, NY/St. Anthony's) was the fourth Setter with double-digit digs with 15. She also had a pair of service aces.
