FARMINGDALE, N.Y. – Seeing their first action of the new year, the Pace University men's and women's cross country teams each put together solid results at the Adelphi Invitational on Friday afternoon. The men's squad finished eighth (out of 14), while the women placed seventh (out of 18).
Men's Results
Led by four freshmen, who each finished in the top-45 of more than 100 runners, the Setters tallied a total score of 209.
Sean Engelfried (Millersville, Md./Severna Park) led the way with a sensational 14
th-place effort, shattering Pace's 8K school record in the process. He crossed the finish line in 26:58.7.
Classmate
Alec Valle (Newburgh, NY/Blair Academy) was equally as impressive, finishing 23
rd with a mark of 28:00.9.
Killian McCole (Staten Island, NY/Monsignor Farrell) and
Ryan Oakes (Scarsdale, NY/Eastchester) were up next for the Blue and Gold, placing 41
st and 45
th respectively. McCole came in at 29:14.5, while Oakes registered a time of 29:31.6.
Pace's lone returner from a year ago,
Ricky Harris (West Harrison, NY/Harrison), put together a 60
th-place finish in a time of 30:24.5. Another pair of rookies rounded out the Blue and Gold as
Mitchell Lawrence (Poughquag, NY/Arlington) registered a 67
th-place finish (30:54.9), and
Benjamin Dengler (South Kortright, NY/South Kortright Central) was slotted 79
th (32:06.9).
Women's Results
The Setters were also piloted by several newcomers on Friday en route to registering a score of 219. Freshman
Heaven Swan (Wingdale, NY/Dover) put together the top finish for Pace, posting a 44
th-place effort and a mark of 22:18.6. Classmate
Rachael Daniels (Collegeville, Pa./Perkiomen Valley) wasn't too far behind Swan as she came in 49
th, tallying a time of 22:28.9.
Camryn Podgorski (Brewster, NY/Brewster) followed the freshmen, beginning her junior campaign with a solid mark of 22:34 (52nd place). Freshman
Jessica Uben (Ridgefield Park, NJ/Ridgefield Park) served as the Blue and Gold's fourth finisher, earning a time of 22:45.4. Classmate
Crystal Raines (Roosevelt, NJ/Hightstown) was the next Setter to cross the finish line, recording a final mark of 24:38.7.
Juniors
Julia Presta (North Massapequa, NY/Farmingdale) and
Shea Cody (Shrewsbury, NJ/Red Bank Regional) capped off Pace's scoring, finishing back-to-back with respective times of 25:15.5 and 25:17.1.

The Setters will return to action next Saturday (Sept. 8), traveling to the Bronx to compete in the Fordham Fiasco.
