Sanchez Alvarez and Beshlian Named Finalists for the NE10's Woman and Man of the Year Awards

PLEASANTVILLE, N.Y. – Robert Beshlian (Wantagh, NY/Wantagh) of the Pace University men's lacrosse team and Lesly Sanchez Alvarez (Stamford, CT/Stamford) of the field hockey team have been named as finalists for the Northeast-10 Conference's Man and Woman of the Year awards, as announced on Tuesday afternoon.

The nominees for each award are senior student-athletes that have excelled in all areas of their collegiate careers, on the field, in the classroom, and in the community.

Beshlian made the NE10 All-Conference Second Team following his stellar season in net for the Blue and Gold. He made 175 saves and sported a 9.15 goals against average in 2018, collecting seven wins. He played a full 60 minutes in net in 11 of Pace's 14 games. Beshlian was named an Inside Lacrosse Preseason All-American prior to the season while earning a pair of NE10 Goalkeeper of the Week recognitions during the year. He was also named to the prestigious USILA Player of the Year Watchlist in April. Beshlian has held numerous volunteer positions in the community while at Pace. He worked at a special needs lacrosse camp from 2014 to 2017, serving as an instructor. He also dedicated his time from 2017 to 2018 volunteering at Atria Senior Living and at a local church.

Sanchez Alvarez was named the NE10 Goalkeeper of the Year for the 2017 season after leading the conference with an .830 save percentage and a 0.88 goals-against average, both of which ranked second in the nation. She leaves Pace with 259 career saves, a program record. Sanchez Alvarez was both a Synapse and Longstreth/NFHCA Second Team All-American, as well as an NE10 All-Conference First Team selection. Academically, she was named a Zag Field Hockey/NFHCA Scholar of Distinction and was selected to the Zag Field Hockey/NFHCA DII National Academic Squad, sporting a 3.93 undergraduate GPA in Biology. Sanchez Alvarez has volunteered at Tender Touch since 2016, providing massages to patients. Additionally, she has previously volunteered at Westchester Medical Center and the SPCA of Westchester.

Winners of the NE10 Man and Woman of the Year Awards will be announced and honored at the conference's year-end banquet in Garden City, N.Y. in June.
