NORTH ANDOVER, Mass. – A day after splitting a doubleheader against Assumption College, the Pace University softball team did the same in a pair of contests against Merrimack College on Sunday afternoon. The Setters rebounded from a 5-1 loss in the day's opener with a 6-1 triumph in the finale. The 2-2 weekend moves Pace's record to 9-15 overall, and 7-7 in the NE10.
Inside the Numbers
*For the second-straight day,
Jaclyn Flores (Escondido, CA/San Pasqual High School) put together a stellar game-two outing for Pace. The senior allowed just one run, while striking out three, in a complete-game effort. She has now given up just one earned run over her last 17 frames of action.
*Offensively,
Stephanie Wang (Arcadia, CA/Arcadia) led Pace with three hits and two runs scored on the day.
Aby Brambila (Newbury Park, CA/Newbury Park) was also strong at the dish, finishing 2-for-5 in the two games with an RBI and a run scored.
*Freshman
Niyah Brown (Chino, CA/Chino Hills) drove in a pair of runs in Game Two, upping her team-leading RBI total to 11 this season (tied with
Larissa Labs (Carlsbad, CA/San Marcos High School)).
Game Two Recap – Pace 6, Merrimack 1
The Setters spent little time dwelling over their loss in Game One, scoring in the first inning of the finale. Senior
Jordan Chillinsky (Carlsbad, CA/Carlsbad High School) registered the RBI on a sacrifice fly to left field. Labs raced home on the play after leading off the game with a walk.
The Blue and Gold's best inning of the day came in the fourth. Fueled by five hits and a walk, the Setters tacked on four runs to their 1-0 lead.
Emma Schafer (Mission Viejo, CA/El Toro) doubled in Pace's first run while Labs walked with the bases loaded. Brown followed with a two-run single to give the Setters a 5-0 edge.
Ashley Lew (New City, NY/Clarkstown High School North) supplied Pace its final tally of the game with an RBI single up the middle in the fifth. Sophomore
Emma Carruth (Torrance, CA/Beverly Hills) scored on the play following a lead-off walk.
Game One Recap – Merrimack 5, Pace 1
The Warriors enjoyed an early lead in the first contest of the day courtesy of two runs in the bottom of first inning. Caitlin McBride knocked in a pair with a two-out double to left-center.
The Setters answered in the fourth, scoring their lone run of the game off a Brambila RBI single through the left side. Wang scored on the play after leading off the inning with a single to right. Pace would go on to leave the bases loaded in the frame.
Merrimack tacked on three insurance runs in the fifth. Alyssa Williamson drove in a pair of runs with a double down the right-field line, while Kristina Terrazzano recorded an RBI single to left.
The Setters had their chances in the opener, leaving eight runners on base.
