COLCHESTER, Vt. – Powered by a first-half shutout, the 10
th-ranked Pace University women's lacrosse team put together a 15-7 victory over Saint Michael's College on Sunday afternoon. The win improves the Blue and Gold to 8-3 overall this season, and 5-2 in NE10 play.
Inside the Numbers
*The Setters had eight different goal-scorers in the contest. Junior
Courtney Pabst (East Patchogue, NY/Bellport) and senior
Angela Kelly (Garnerville, NY/North Rockland) each put in a team-high three goals, while Kelly also added an assist for a squad-best four points.
*
Stephanie Chadnick (Brewster, NY/Brewster) and
Amanda Dickerson (Riverhead, NY/Riverhead) were Pace's other multi-goal scorers with two tallies apiece.
*
Abby Haimson (Montville, NJ/Montville),
Mary Kate Lonegan (Brewster, NY/Brewster),
Emma Rafferty (Bay Shore, NY/Islip),
Casey Gelderman (Farmingville, NY/Sachem High School East), and
Chelsea Covino (Holmdel, NJ/Holmdel) also found the back of the net for Pace. Gelderman dished out a team-high two assists.
*Senior
Jillian Oross (Bay Shore, NY/Bay Shore) played the first half in net for the Setters, making five stops in 30 scoreless minutes. She is now 8-3 this season, totaling 76 saves.
*The Blue and Gold held an 11-0 lead at halftime before taking their largest lead of 13-0 at the 26-minute mark of the second half.
*Pace compiled a 28-14 edge in shots on goal, and a 10-3 margin in caused turnovers. Kelly and Pabst led the Setters with two forced turnovers each.
How it Happened
The Setters hopped out to a 5-0 advantage less than eight minutes into the contest. Pabst found the back of the net twice in the opening several minutes, sparking Pace's dominant start. Following nearly three minutes without a goal, a Dickerson tally began another quick 5-0 spurt for the Setters. Chadnick provided Pace with a 10-0 edge at the 7:27 mark.
Following Chadnick's tally, Pace didn't score until less than a minute left before halftime. Gelderman found Kelly for her third goal of the first half with 22 seconds on the clock.
Up 11-0 at the break, Pace was able to cruise to victory in the second half. Lonegan and Haimson began the half with goals for the Setters, extending Pace's opening-run to 13-0.
Saint Michael's finally notched their first tally of the game with 17:02 remaining in the second half. Pabst answered quickly for Pace with her third goal of the game less than two minutes later.
Following a 6-0 stretch for the Purple Knights, Covino recorded the game's final goal with 13 seconds on the clock.
