PLEASANTVILLE, N.Y. – The 10th-ranked Pace University women's lacrosse team earned its fourth-straight win on Wednesday night courtesy of an 11-7 triumph over Stonehill College. The victory marks the first-ever for Pace over the Skyhawks, and improves the Blue and Gold to 9-3 this season.
Inside the Numbers
*Senior Casey Gelderman (Farmingville, NY/Sachem High School East), the reigning NE10 Player of the Week, scored four of her team-best five goals in the second half. She also dished out a pair of assists to register a game-high seven points. Â
*Gelderman's classmate, Stephanie Chadnick (Brewster, NY/Brewster), also played a large role in the win with three goals of her own. Chadnick was all over the Skyhawks' defense, tallying a team-high 11 shots.
*Courtney Pabst (East Patchogue, NY/Bellport), Angela Kelly (Garnerville, NY/North Rockland) and Mary Kate Lonegan (Brewster, NY/Brewster) were Pace's final three goal-scorers while Emily Ankabrandt (Scotia, NY/Burnt Hills-Ballston Lake) dished out a pair of assists.
*As a team, the Setters put 21 shots on goal compared to 15 for Stonehill. Pace also tallied advantages in ground balls (12-11) and draw controls (12-8).
*Senior goalkeeper Jillian Oross (Bay Shore, NY/Bay Shore) recorded eight saves in net en route to picking up her ninth win of the season. Also on the defensive side of things, the Setters caused 16 turnovers. Â
How it Happened
A back and forth beginning of the game yielded three ties over the first 18 minutes of the contest. Chadnick posted Pace's first two goals of the game, while a tally from Stonehill's Linna Jalinskas evened the score at 3-3 at the 11:34 mark.
Sitting tied at three apiece, the Setters ended the first half on a 3-1 run. Gelderman, Lonegan and Kelly all put in goals as Pace took a 6-4 lead into the halftime break.
The Blue and Gold put the game away in the beginning of the second half, scoring four-straight goals to take their largest lead of the game at 10-4 with 11:02 left. Gelderman, who came alive in the second half, registered three-straight tallies to cap off the run.
Gelderman added another one at the 7:08 mark, which was Pace's final goal of the game.
