Pace Baseball Defeated at Bentley, 8-4

WALTHAM, Mass. – Sitting at 5-1 over their last six games, the Pace University baseball team was defeated on Saturday afternoon by a score of 8-4 at Bentley University. The loss moves the Setters to 12-8-1 overall, including 6-4 against the Northeast-10 Conference.

The Falcons jumped on Pace early on, scoring two runs in the first inning off Setters' starter Kyle Cashman (Hicksville, NY/Hicksville). Cashman would go on to earn the loss after giving up seven earned runs over five innings.

The Blue and Gold cut into the Bentley lead in the third after a Matt Almonte (New Rochelle, NY/New Rochelle) RBI ground out scored Matt Bass (Staten Island, NY/Tottenville). The Falcons responded immediately in the bottom half of the inning, taking a 3-1 lead off a Max Troiani RBI single.

After Pace once again slimmed the edge to just one run on a Ryan Crowley (Cornwall on Hudson, NY/Iona Prep/Monmouth) sac fly in the fourth, the Falcons used big innings in the fourth and the sixth to create separation.

A two-run home run from Luke Figueira, followed by RBI hits from Nathan Littman and Mike Samko supplied Bentley with a 7-2 advantage.

The Setters, who weren't able to cut the advantage to less than four, scored their final runs off Greg Tsouprakos (West Islip, NY/West Islip) RBI double (eighth) and a Paul Piccolino (Staten Island, NY/Monsignor Farrell) single (ninth). Tsouprakos, already enjoying a nice rookie season, led Pace with three hits on the day.
