Pace Athletics Weekend Preview: Pivotal Matchups Ahead For All Spring Teams

PLEASANTVILLE, N.Y. – Senior Days for the Pace University lacrosse teams highlight one of Pace's final weekends of home athletic events. The men will take to Pace Stadium first with a Friday night battle at 7 p.m. while the women's squad will be in action on Saturday at 1 p.m. Pace's softball and baseball squads will also be in competition this weekend, each traveling up North for NE10 competition.

No. 20 Pace Men's Lacrosse vs. Assumption College | Friday, 7 p.m. | Live Stats | Video
It's a "win and you're in" scenario for the Setters against Assumption on Friday night. Pace, which sits at 5-5 in the NE10 this season, needs a victory over the Greyhounds to secure the final berth into the conference championship tournament as the No. 6 seed.

Having not competed in nearly a week, the Setters are coming off a tight loss at Bentley (10-9) last Saturday. Senior keeper Robert Beshlian (Wantagh, NY/Wantagh) capped off a solid week in net, posting a second-straight 14-save effort. He was named the ECAC Defensive Player of the Week on Wednesday after totaling 28 stops and a 65.1 save percentage over two contests last week.

Bradley Paterson (Caldwell, NJ/Depaul Catholic) enters the final weekend of the regular season as Pace's leader in both points (39) and goals (28). Senior Liam Brennan (Huntington Station, NY/Walt Whitman) sits as Pace's team leader in assists with 14. Brennan has climbed to third on Pace's all-time points list with 214 in his career.

The Blue and Gold will celebrate their highly-productive 10-person senior class prior to the contest.

Assumption holds nearly identical records as Pace, sitting 5-5 in the NE10 and 7-5 overall. The Greyhounds have lost three games in a row.

No. 14 Pace Women's Lacrosse vs. Franklin Pierce University | Saturday, 1 p.m. | Live Stats | Video
The Setters, who have already clinched a berth into next week's Northeast-10 Conference Tournament, will look to end the regular season on a high note versus Franklin Pierce.

With their 15-9 win over Saint Anselm earlier this week, Pace set a new program mark for wins in a season. The Blue and Gold stand at 12-4 this season, eclipsing last year's 11-win campaign. Since beginning the program in 2015, the Setters have improved their win total in each season.

Senior keeper Jillian Oross (Bay Shore, NY/Bay Shore) notched a career-high 15 saves in the win over the Hawks, while junior Courtney Pabst (East Patchogue, NY/Bellport) put in a career-best six goals. Pabst now leads the Blue and Gold in points this season with 69 points. Senior Casey Gelderman (Farmingville, NY/Sachem High School East), who recorded her 200th-career goal earlier this season, ranks second on the team with 66 points.

Pace's senior class, which was part of the program's maiden season in 2015, will be honored before Saturday's game at approximately 12:30 p.m.

Pace Softball at the College of Saint Rose | Saturday (Noon), Sunday DH (11 a.m.) |  Live Stats
The Blue and Gold conclude their regular season with a three-game set on the road at Saint Rose. Pace has won six-straight contests, and currently sit in second place in the NE10 Southwest standings with a record of 11-4.

The red-hot Setters have found success on both sides of the ball this season. Pace's attack features a pair of hitters who rank in the top-six in the NE10 in batting average, while sophomore pitcher Emma Bernet (Baldwinsville, NY/Charles W Baker) leads the conference in ERA with a mark of 1.24 across 118.1 innings.  Bernet has tossed five-complete game shutouts this season while sitting with an overall record of 11-5.

Freshman Niyah Brown (Chino, CA/Chino Hills) and senior Larissa Labs (Carlsbad, CA/San Marcos High School) have piloted the offense. Brown leads the squad with a .388 batting average while recording a team-best 30 RBIs. She also holds a .633 slugging percentage and .431 on-base percentage. Senior Larissa Labs (Carlsbad, CA/San Marcos High School) has tallied a team-high 50 total hits, including eight doubles and six triples. Senior Jordan Chillinsky (Carlsbad, CA/Carlsbad High School) is also batting over .300 this season in 88 at-bats.

Pace Baseball at No. 10 Le Moyne College | Saturday DH (1 p.m.), Sunday (Noon) | Live Stats
The Setters hit the road for a key divisional series at 10th-ranked Le Moyne, looking to improve on their 7-7 record against the Southwest this season. The Dolphins enter the weekend at 28-10-1 overall, and tops in the conference standings at 9-2 versus the division.

Despite coming back from a four-run deficit in the contest, the Setters are coming off a 6-5 defeat to Adelphi on Thursday afternoon. A two-run home run from Michael Gulino (Meriden, CT/Maloney) put Pace even with the Panthers in the seventh, but an Adelphi run in the ninth clinched the victory.

Gulino continues to be Pace's top run-producer this season with 29 RBIs. He has also launched a team-high four home runs. The Setters' leading hitter this season, Paul Piccolino (Staten Island, NY/Monsignor Farrell), also recorded an RBI against the Panthers. Piccolino enters the weekend with a team-best .327 batting average.
