Pace Softball Extends Win Streak to Five in Sweep of East Stroudsburg

EAST STROUDSBURG, Pa. – The Pace University softball team extended its current win streak to five-straight games on Sunday with a doubleheader sweep of East Stroudsburg University. The Setters notched triumphs of 2-1 and 10-4 to move their record to 21-19 this season.

Inside the Numbers
*Sophomore pitcher Emma Bernet (Baldwinsville, NY/Charles W Baker) put together a stellar Game One for Pace, allowing just the one run in a complete-game effort. She moves her record to 10-5 this season with six complete games, and an ERA of 1.32.

*Senior Jaclyn Flores (Escondido, CA/San Pasqual High School) followed with a win in the day's finale, allowing three earned runs across six innings. Freshman MacKenzie Garrick (South River, NJ/South River) tossed a scoreless seventh.

*Freshman Niyah Brown (Chino, CA/Chino Hills) served as the offensive catalyst for the Setters, finishing 4-for-8 at the dish with five RBIs and three runs scored. Brown is now batting an even .400 this season, which ranks third in the NE10. Her 30 RBIs this year also puts her eighth in the NE10 rankings.

*Lindsey Ah Soon (Ewa Beach, HI/Kamehameha Kapalama) and Aby Brambila (Newbury Park, CA/Newbury Park) also put forth solid doubleheaders, each finishing with three hits and a pair of RBIs.

*Stephanie Wang (Arcadia, CA/Arcadia) tallied a 2-for-5 effort in the second game of the day with two RBIs and a run scored.

Game One Recap – Pace 2, East Stroudsburg 1
Helped out by a stellar performance from Bernet, the Setters needed just five hits to claim the first win of the day. Bernet scattered just six hits herself, while striking out four.

Pace's runs came off a Brambila sac fly in the second, and an RBI single by Brown in the fourth—which provided a 2-1 edge.

After Pace took the lead in the fourth, Bernet allowed just three hits the rest of the way.

Game Two Recap – Pace 11, East Stroudsburg 4
Relatively limited in Game One, the Pace offense erupted in the second contest of the day. The Setters' 11 runs signified the third time that they have reached double figures this season.

The Blue and Gold scored in six of the seven innings, including multiple runs in five of those frames.

Ah Soon and Brown registered RBI knocks in the first inning to put Pace up 2-0. Brown would then strike again in the second, along with Wang—each posting RBI fielder's choices.

Up just 4-3 after three, the Blue and Gold tacked on seven runs over the final four frames.

Brown tripled in a run in the fourth, and singled in another in the sixth. Ah Soon, Wang, and Brambila also all registered RBI knocks in the fifth, sixth and seventh innings.

The Setters return home on Tuesday to take on Southern Connecticut State University at 4 p.m.
