PLEASANTVILLE, N.Y. – Sparked by a nine-run second inning, the Pace University softball team tallied a 12-2 win over American International College on Sunday afternoon. The victory completes a three-game weekend sweep for the Setters, and improves them to 8-2 against the Southwest Division this season.
It was a dominant weekend for the Setters, who outscored AIC by a 23-4 margin over the three contests. For the second-straight game, Pace needed just five innings to pick up the win.
Larissa Labs (Carlsbad, CA/San Marcos High School),
Jordan Chillinsky (Carlsbad, CA/Carlsbad High School) and
Gianna Fletcher (Carson, CA/Mary Star of the Sea) each recorded multiple hits for the Blue and Gold, with Fletcher also registering a team-high four RBIs. Chillinsky finished the day 2-for-2 with two runs scored and a walk.
Niyah Brown (Chino, CA/Chino Hills),
Emma Schafer (Mission Viejo, CA/El Toro) and
Ashley Lew (New City, NY/Clarkstown High School North) each chipped in RBIs for the home squad, while nine different players recorded hits.
Sophomore
Emma Bernet (Baldwinsville, NY/Charles W Baker) continued her winning ways in the circle, improving to 8-4 this season. She allowed the two runs in the first inning before retiring nine-straight batters. Freshman
MacKenzie Garrick (South River, NJ/South River) tossed a scoreless fifth for Pace.
The Setters put the game away on Sunday with a monstrous second frame, which included nine runs on eight hits.
Lindsey Ah Soon (Ewa Beach, HI/Kamehameha Kapalama) led off the rally with a triple off the very top of the left-field wall. She would end up scoring on a double-steal attempt after Schafer walked and stole second.
Lew, Chillinsky, Fletcher, and Schafer each recorded RBI hits in the inning. A double from Chillinsky and a single up the middle from Fletcher both plated two for the Setters in the second. Incidentally, Schafer recorded two runs scored in the inning as Pace batted around the lineup.
Fletcher knocked in two more runs the following inning to cap Pace's scoring at 12, which ties their highest output of the season.
