Pace Softball Swept by Saint Anselm

PLEASANTVILLE, N.Y. – Playing their second NE10 doubleheader in as many days, the Pace softball team dropped a pair of contests to Saint Anselm College on Sunday afternoon. The Hawks put together wins of 2-0 and 6-1.

Inside the Numbers
*MacKenzie Garrick (South River, NJ/South River) pitched a solid Game One for the Blue and Gold, allowing just a single earned run in seven innings of work. She scattered just six hits while striking out four.

*Emma Bernet (Baldwinsville, NY/Charles W Baker) also put together a strong outing in the circle, tossing four scoreless innings out of the bullpen in Game Two.

*Senior Ashley Lew (New City, NY/Clarkstown High School North) and freshman Niyah Brown (Chino, CA/Chino Hills) were the only Setters able to tally multiple hits on the day, combining to go 4-for-9 with two walks and a run scored.

*Pace's offense mustered just 10 hits in both games, tallying their lone run in fifth inning of the finale.

Game One Recap – Saint Anselm 2, Pace 0
The Pace bats were kept quiet in the first contest thanks to a strong performance from Hawks hurler, Courtney Fisher. The Setters were held to just three hits, and five total base runners.

Saint Anselm scored their first run of the contest off a Pace error in the first inning before tallying one more on an RBI fielder's choice in the fourth.

One of Pace's best scoring chances came in the second inning. Aby Brambila (Newbury Park, CA/Newbury Park) was thrown out at the plate to end the inning, attempting to score from second on a Lew single to center.

Game Two Recap – Saint Anselm 6, Pace 1
A five-run third inning for the Hawks set the tone in Game Two. Megan Murrell and Maddison Leite each drove in a pair on RBI hits, while Amanda Bickford knocked one in as well.

The Blue and Gold's one run came off a Brambila RBI fielder's choice in the fifth. Pace loaded the bases with one out thanks to singles from Lew and Stephanie Wang (Arcadia, CA/Arcadia), as well as a walk to Brown. Brambila's fielder's choice was next followed by a ground out from Jillian Gartner (Encinitas, CA/San Dieguito Academy).
