No. 12 Women's Lacrosse Cruises Past SCSU, 20-9

PLEASANTVILLE, N.Y. – Sparked by six first-half goals from senior Casey Gelderman (Farmingville, NY/Sachem High School East), the 12th-ranked Pace University women's lacrosse team cruised to a 20-9 triumph over Southern Connecticut State University on Tuesday night. The Setters, who have now won three in a row, improve to 5-1 on the season.

Inside the Numbers
*Gelderman's six tallies upped her team-leading goal total to 23 this season. She also dished out an assist to shift her points mark to 29.

*Speaking of points, Courtney Pabst (East Patchogue, NY/Bellport) racked up a career-best nine of them. The junior recorded four goals and five assists against the Owls, and now leads Pace with 30 points this season.

*Senior Stephanie Chadnick (Brewster, NY/Brewster) also put forth a stellar effort on the Blue and Gold attack, totaling three goals and two assists.

*Angela Kelly (Garnerville, NY/North Rockland), Carlyn Mucci (Cortlandt Manor, NY/Walter Panas) and Juliana Marcolini (Warwick, NY/Warwick Valley) each supplemented the Pace offense with two goals apiece.

*The Setters hammered 31 shots on goal compared to just 17 for SCSU. Pace also earned a 22-11 margin in ground balls.

*On the defensive side of things, Pabst caused a team-high four turnovers. Senior Jillian Oross (Bay Shore, NY/Bay Shore) posted eight saves in net to earn her fifth victory of the season.

*Tuesday night marked the third time this season that Pace has scored 20 or more goals.

How it Happened
*The Setters dominated from the opening whistle, scoring nine of the game's first 10 goals. Gelderman, Pabst and Chadnick accounted for all of Pace's tallies during their 9-1 start to the contest. Back-to-back goals from Gelderman capped of the run at the 11:42 mark. Following three-straight goals from Southern Connecticut, the Setters closed out the half with a 4-0 stretch to take a 13-4 lead into halftime.

Up nine at the break, the Setters continued to put pressure on in the second half. A tally from Marcolini provided Pace with a 17-7 lead at the 14:26 mark, while another one put Pace up 19-9 with 5:25 left. Mucci capped off the Pace scoring with her second goal of the night with a little over 90 seconds remaining.
