Rohnert Park, Calif. – Playing against their toughest competition on the young season, the Pace University softball team dropped a pair of contests to No. 14 Sonoma State University on Wednesday. The Setters fell in walk-off fashion in Game One (5-4) before losing 8-0 in the nightcap.
Inside the Numbers
*The Setters battled back from a 4-0 deficit in the first contest of the day before ultimately falling by-way of a walk-off home run in the bottom of the seventh.
*Facing some of the stiffest pitching that they will see all season, the Setters mustered just five hits on the day.
Aby Brambila (Newbury Park, CA/Newbury Park) tallied two of those knocks, while
Jillian Gartner (Encinitas, CA/San Dieguito Academy),
Jordan Chillinsky (Carlsbad, CA/Carlsbad High School) and
Lindsey Ah Soon (Ewa Beach, HI/Kamehameha Kapalama) also added hits.

MacKenzie Garrick (South River, NJ/South River) went the distance in the circle in Game One, while
Emma Bernet (Baldwinsville, NY/Charles W Baker) allowed just one run in 3.1 innings out of the bullpen of Game Two.
*The Setters put the pressure on the Seawolves in the first contest, walking three times and forcing a pair of errors.
Game One Recap – Sonoma State 5, Pace 4
The Setters showed great resilience in the opener, climbing out of an early 4-0 deficit. After giving up a four-spot in the first two innings, Pace grabbed it all back in the fifth.
An error provided the Blue and Gold's first run, while an RBI fielder's choice from
Larissa Labs (Carlsbad, CA/San Marcos High School) cut the lead in half. Pace's final two tallies of the frame came off a wild pitch and an RBI single from Gartner.
Following a scoreless sixth and seventh from Pace, Sonoma State clinched the win off a walk-off home run from Jenn Amaral.
Game Two Recap – Sonoma State 8, Pace 0 (Five Innings)
The Seawolves' momentum of Game One carried over for them to score seven runs in the bottom of the first inning of the nightcap.
Pace was unable to answer the offensive explosion as Sonoma State earned the win after five frames.

The Setters will return to Pleasantville from California on Friday, and host their home opener on March 20 against Mercy College.
