BELMONT, Calif. – On Day Two of their spring break trip to California, the Pace University softball team dropped a pair of contests to Notre Dame de Namur University on Monday afternoon. The Setters were on the wrong end of 4-0 and 5-4 margins.
Inside the Numbers
*Freshman
Niyah Brown (Chino, CA/Chino Hills) was Pace's top offensive performer, going 3-for-5 in the two contests with two runs scored and three RBIs. She was especially impressive in the second game, launching the first two home runs of her young career.
*Seniors
Jordan Chillinsky (Carlsbad, CA/Carlsbad High School) and
Larissa Labs (Carlsbad, CA/San Marcos High School) also put together solid outings at the dish. Chillinsky went 2-for-2 with a walk in the opener while Labs tallied a hit in each contest.
*
Jaclyn Flores (Escondido, CA/San Pasqual High School) and
MacKenzie Garrick (South River, NJ/South River) split game one in the circle, allowing the four runs and striking out nine. Garrick went on to toss 3.1 scoreless innings in the second game. Â
Game One Recap – Notre Dame de Namur 4, Pace 0
The Setters' bats were unable to muster any runs in the first game of the day. Pace totaled just seven hits while leaving 10 runners on base.
The Argos, who tallied just six hits in the game, scored a pair in the second and another two in the fifth.
Game Two Recap – Notre Dame de Namur 5, Pace 4 (8 Innings)
The Blue and Gold recorded their first run of the day in the second inning of Game Two. Freshman
Gianna Fletcher (Carson, CA/Mary Star of the Sea) knocked an RBI double, scoring
Emma Schafer (Mission Viejo, CA/El Toro), to give Pace a 1-0 lead.
The Argos answered with a run in the third off an RBI single from Lauryn Zabat.
The back and forth action continued in the fourth as Pace once again took a one-run lead off a solo home run from Brown.
Notre Dame de Namur grabbed their first edge in the second game with three runs in the fourth. Alexxis Corona and Taylor Haynes each posted RBI hits as the Argos took a 4-2 lead.
Brown struck again in the sixth, tying the game up at 4-4 with a two-run bomb.
Annie Carberry (Colorado Springs, CO/Pine Creek) scored on the play after reaching on a fielder's choice.
After a scoreless seventh on both sides, the Argos walked off in the eighth. After getting a runner placed on second due to tiebreaker rules, Notre Dame de Namur put together a single and then a sacrifice fly to clinch the victory.

The Setters continue their California stretch with another doubleheader tomorrow. Pace is scheduled to take on Holy Names University at 4 p.m. EST.
