No. 18 Women's Lacrosse Defeats Dominican, 21-4, to Begin 2018

PLEASANTVILLE, N.Y. – Fueled by 10 different scorers, the 18th-ranked Pace University women's lacrosse team opened 2018 with a 21-4 triumph over Dominican College on Sunday afternoon.

Inside the Numbers
*Senior Angela Kelly (Garnerville, NY/North Rockland)'s led the Setters' attack with four tallies—all in the first half. She supplied Pace with leads of 2-1, 4-1, 10-2, and 13-2.

*Classmate Stephanie Chadnick (Brewster, NY/Brewster) was Pace's leading point-scorer with five on three goals and two assists. Like Kelly, she also did all over damage in the first half, assisting on goals by Kelly and Casey Gelderman (Farmingville, NY/Sachem High School East).

*Speaking of Gelderman, Pace's leading goal-scorer from last season put in three tallies to open 2018. She also picked up three ground balls and forced a team-best four turnovers.

*Senior Jillian Oross (Bay Shore, NY/Bay Shore) earned the win net for the Blue and Gold. She opened the year by allowing just three goals and making four saves in more than 35 minutes of action.

*Senior Najmah James (Danbury, CT/Danbury) led the Setters with a team-high four ground balls while also causing a pair of turnovers.

*Pace outshot Dominican by a 37-13 margin, including a 28-10 difference in shots on goal.

How it Happened
After going down 1-0 less than two minutes into the contest, the Setters rattled off nine-straight goals to take commanding control of the game. Chadnick knocked in three of tallies for the home squad, while Gelderman added a pair. Junior Amanda Dickerson (Riverhead, NY/Riverhead) capped off the rally with a goal at the 18:12 mark. Following a second goal from the Chargers, Pace ended the half with a 5-0 stretch. A pair of goals from Kelly, along with tallies from Courtney Pabst (East Patchogue, NY/Bellport), Abby Haimson (Montville, NJ/Montville) and Emma Rafferty (Bay Shore, NY/Islip), put the finishing touches on a 14-2 lead at the break.

The second half brought more of the same dominance for the Blue and Gold. Gelderman opened up the frame with her third goal of the contest while Juliana Marcolini (Warwick, NY/Warwick Valley) and Mary Kate Lonegan (Brewster, NY/Brewster) would each tack on two of their in the second 30 minutes. The Setters ended the game with four-straight goals.
