How it Happened
The Setters enjoyed one of their best starts to a game this season, jumping out to a 13-4 lead over the first six minutes of the game. Poleon was especially sharp as he scored Pace's first nine points of the contest on 4-of-4 shooting. The Blue and Gold's lead would grow to as much at 22-12 at the mid-way point of the half before SCSU started to even things out. The Owls responded with an 11-0 run to take their first lead of the game with 6:29 left in the first half. It was back-and-forth from there as the teams exchanged leads four times prior to halftime. SCSU would go on to score the final four points of the half to take a 32-29 edge into the break.
Pace and the Owls continued their seesaw battle into the second half. After going down six early on, the Blue and Gold rattled off a 9-2 run to take a 42-39 advantage at the 14:05 mark. Back-to-back free throws from Wejnert would then provide Pace with a 54-49 lead with 7:22 left. SCSU would climb back to even at 56-56 with a pair of free throws of their own at the 2:13 mark.
From there, it was clutch shooting from the Blue and Gold that ultimately led to the victory. Poleon broke the stalemate, knocking in a three-pointer with 1:46 left. After a defensive stop on the other end, Jacobs knocked in a three-ball of his own to extend the lead to 62-56 with a little over a minute remaining in regulation. With SCSU still clinging to life after a bucket on the other end, Wejnert supplied the final dagger with a third-straight long ball that gave the home team a 65-58 lead with just 30 seconds on the clock.
