Pace Women's Basketball Edged by SCSU, 62-57

PLEASANTVILLE, N.Y. – Despite coming back from a 20-point first half deficit, the Pace University women's basketball team was defeated by Northeast-10 Conference foe, Southern Connecticut State, on Saturday afternoon, 62-57. The loss drops the Setters' record on the season to 3-6 as the Blue and Gold fall to 2-3 against the NE10 on the year.

Recording her second double-double of the season, Jackie DelliSanti (Commack, NY/Commack) led the Setters in Saturday's contest. The junior guard had team-highs with 13 points and 11 rebounds. Lauren Hackett (Commack, NY/St. Anthony's) added 12 points, now her new career-high, making 3-of-5 from beyond the arc. Alexandra Monteleone (Cold Spring, NY/Haldane) and Lauren Schetter (Beacon, NY/Beacon High School) added eight points apiece to round out the Pace offensive effort.

Pace narrowly won the battle of the boards, 34-32, eclipsing 30 rebounds for the second time in four games. Seven players hauled in a rebound for Pace, with Monteleone and Brianna Wong (River Vale, NJ/Pascack Valley) recording five each to go with DelliSanti's 11.

The Owls controlled the opening 20 minutes, going on a 14-1 run in the first quarter to put the Setters in an early hole. SCSU would lead by as much as 15 in the opening frame. After Hackett buried a three to open up the second quarter to cut the Owl lead back down to single digits, SCSU outscored Pace 17-5 over the following seven minutes to stake a claim to a 41-21 lead, and went into the half holding a 43-26 advantage.

Pace outscored SCSU 31-19 in the second half to completely erase the Owls' lead, but ultimately came up short in the closing 20 minutes.

The Blue and Gold went on a 21-4 run in the third quarter to tie the game at 47-47, but the Owls scored four points in the closing minute to take a narrow lead into the fourth.

The Owls would hold a two-possession lead for most of the quarter before threes from Hackett and Monteleone brought the Setters to within two. After a SCSU free throw put the Owls ahead 60-57, a potential game-tying three from Monteleone went narrowly off target with 18 seconds left on the clock. A pair of free throws from SCSU's Kiana Steinauer secured the win for the Owls, 62-57.
