PLEASANTVILLE, N.Y. – Led by a 25-point effort from sophomore
Brandon Jacobs (Cambria Heights, NY/Long Island Lutheran), the Pace University men's basketball team tallied an 84-63 win over Nyack College on Wednesday night. The Setters, who have now won eight of their last nine games, improve their record to 9-3 this season.
Jacobs did it all for the Blue and Gold on Wednesday night, adding five assists, six rebounds and three steals to his game-high points total. He is now leading Pace in scoring this season (17.3 points per contest), while ranking fourth in the NE10 in assists per game with 5.6.
Three other Setters joined Jacobs in double figures, including
Peyton Wejnert (Point Pleasant, NJ/Southern Regional), who recorded his fourth double-double of the season with 18 points and 11 rebounds.
Tyrone Cohen, Jr. (Woodside, NY/Christ the King / Holy Cross University / Broward College) and
Greg Poleon (Brooklyn, NY/Abraham Lincoln / Coffeyville CC) rounded out the Pace attack, combining for 23 points and 10 boards. Cohen, Jr. also dished out a season-best five assists.
Speaking of assists, the Setters totaled a season-high 18 on the night. Pace's strong passing led to a season-best shooting percentage as well. The Blue and Gold made 28 of their 50 attempts from the floor (56 percent). The Setters' 84 points also marked a new season-high.
Pace led for almost the entirety of the contest. An 18-4 run in the first half provided the Setters with a 25-11 edge. The advantage would eventually grow to as high as 19 following a Wejnert layup with less than two minutes before the break.
Up 41-25 at halftime, the Setters maintained their intensity in the second frame. Nyack would never cut the lead below 14 points, while Pace grabbed their largest edge of 24 points with less than three minutes left.
