Pace Men's Basketball Takes Down NYIT, 66-60

PLEASANTVILLE, N.Y. – The Pace University men's basketball team improved to 8-3 this season courtesy of a 66-60 triumph over NYIT on Tuesday night inside the Goldstein Fitness Center.

Junior Peyton Wejnert (Point Pleasant, NJ/Southern Regional) piloted the Pace attack, registering a game-high 20 points—half of which came from the free-throw line. He also added a team-high eight rebounds.

Brandon Jacobs (Cambria Heights, NY/Long Island Lutheran) added a solid stat line of his own, finishing the night with 16 points, six assists and three steals. Greg Poleon (Brooklyn, NY/Abraham Lincoln / Coffeyville CC) served as Pace's third double-figure scorer, putting in 13 points, to go along with seven boards.

Defensively, the Blue and Gold forced 24 Bears' turnovers while racking up 10 steals. Ray Montilus (Union, NJ/Pope John XXII) matched Jacobs' three takeaways, while Luke McLaughlin (Blauvelt, NY/Tappan Zee) nabbed a pair of his own.

Tied 28-28 at halftime, the Setters attacked the basket in the second half. Pace attempted 21 free throws after the break, making 18 of those tries.

Back-to-back free throws from Wejnert capped off a 14-4 run to start the second half for Pace—which yielded a 10-point lead. The Setters stayed in control for much of the final 40 minutes as a Poleon three-pointer put Pace up 60-50 with less than six minutes left.

The Blue and Gold put the finishing touches on the victory by going six-of-six from the free-throw line over the final 31 seconds of the game.
