Pace Volleyball Falls in Five Sets to Bentley

PLEASANTVILLE, N.Y. – In the first of two home matches to wrap up the regular season, the Pace University volleyball team was defeated in five sets (23-25, 25-20, 21-25, 25-15, 10-15) on Friday night by Bentley University. The loss shifts the Setters' overall record to 20-8 this season, including 8-5 inside the NE10.

Pace battled back from 1-0 and 2-1 deficits versus the Falcons, but were unable to pull out a fifth-set triumph.

Senior Claudia Fontanet (Bayamon, Puerto Rico/Academia Maria Reina) led the way for the Blue and Gold, putting together a career night inside the Goldstein Fitness Center. The native of Puerto Rico racked up a career-high 25 kills, while hitting a solid .203 for the match. She also added 18 digs to secure her 12th double-double of the season.

Juniors Samantha Nidini (Houston, TX/Clearlake) and Tatjana Calimpong-Burke (Waianae, HI/Iolani) also put together stellar stat lines on Friday. Nidini picked up her ninth double-double of the year with 60 assists and 10 digs. Calimpong-Burke joined Fontanet by eclipsing the 20-kill mark, finishing the night with 22 putaways on a .333 hitting percentage. She also tallied 17 digs.

Senior Kathleen Benson (Kings Park, NY/Kings Park) served as the Setters' most efficient performer on offense, tallying a team-best .467 hitting percentage. She made just one error en route to posting 15 kills. Benson also tallied a team-best five block assists.

Pace's final match totals of 93 digs, 66 assists, 84.0 points, and 16 block assists all marked new season-highs.

The Blue and Gold wrap up the regular season tomorrow afternoon when they host Stonehill at 1 p.m. Pace will celebrate its three seniors prior to first serve.
