Pace Men's Basketball Pulls Away From AIC, 66-59

PLEASANTVILLE, N.Y. – Highlighted by four starters in double figures, the Pace University men's basketball team recorded a 66-59 triumph over AIC on Wednesday night. The NE10 victory improves the Setters to 5-2 this season.

With the score tied at halftime, sophomore Austin Gilbertson's (Etters, PA/Trinity) four three-pointers in the second half proved to be a difference maker for Pace. In fact, all of Gilbertson's long balls came inside the final 12 minutes of regulation, including the final dagger at the 1:21 mark that gave the Setters a six-point lead.

Despite registering their lowest field-goal percentage and point total of the season, Pace once again found a way to win. The Setters' defense kept its opponent under the 60-mark for the third time this season, while also recording a season-best six blocks. AIC shot just 39 percent from the field.

Gilbertson's 17 points led the way for a balanced offense that featured other double-figure scorers, Brandon Jacobs (Cambria Heights, NY/Long Island Lutheran), Greg Poleon (Brooklyn, NY/Abraham Lincoln / Coffeyville CC) and Peyton Wejnert (Point Pleasant, NJ/Southern Regional). The Setter four combined for 62 of the Setters' 66 points.

Pace did most of its damage from either three-point range or the free-throw line. The Blue Gold knocked in 19 from the charity stripe, while finishing 7-of-18 from beyond the arc.

Poleon led Pace's efforts on the boards, grabbing nine of them. Wejnert chipped in five boards of his own, while also leading the home squad with three blocks.
