Pace Basketball Teams to Host Annual Pride Night Doubleheader on Wednesday

PLEASANTVILLE, N.Y. – The Setters are back home for a midweek, Northeast-10 Conference doubleheader, as the Pace University women's and men's basketball teams will host American International College on Wednesday night. The women get things started with a 5:30 p.m. start, while the men's squads meet will meet at 7:30 p.m.

Wednesday is the third annual Pride Hoops Night inside the Goldstein Fitness Center, as the Pace Athletics Department teams up with the LGBTQA Center to celebrate the Pace community's inclusiveness and diversity. Halftime of each game will feature a drag show performance by Miz Jade, while free t-shirts will be given to the first 400 fans in attendance.

Looking for a second-consecutive conference win, the Setters take on the Yellow Jackets to begin Wednesday's action. Pace looks to rebound from Sunday's 71-67 loss to Post that dropped the Blue and Gold to 2-4 on the year. The Setters were led by a combined 41 points from Lauren Schetter (Beacon, NY/Beacon High School) and Jackie DelliSanti (Commack, NY/Commack). Schetter's 21 points were her second straight game with more than 20 points, while DelliSanti recorded her first double-double of the year with 11 rebounds to go along with her 20 points.

Pace nearly battled back from a 16-point third-quarter deficit on Sunday, pulling to within one against the Eagles late in the fourth quarter before the limited time proved to be the deciding factor as Post was able to hold off the resilient Setter effort.

AIC comes to Pleasantville at 1-3 after securing their first win of the year on Saturday against Saint Rose. The Yellow Jackets' 82-53 win was due in part to four double-figure scorers, led by a 22-point outing by Ishanna Brown. AIC's Dana Watts ranks third in the NE10 in both points (20.0) and rebounds (11.8) per game.

The Setters aim to extend their current win streak to four games in the backend of Wednesday's doubleheader. Pace improved to 4-2 on the season following a 70-55 victory at Mercy on Sunday. Pace shot 50 percent from the field as four starters—Peyton Wejnert (Point Pleasant, NJ/Southern Regional), Brandon Jacobs (Cambria Heights, NY/Long Island Lutheran), Greg Poleon (Brooklyn, NY/Abraham Lincoln / Coffeyville CC), and Tyron Cohen, Jr.—all reached double figures offensively.

Poleon and Wejnert also dominated the boards as the Setters outrebounded the Mavericks, 39-23. The senior Poleon matched his season-high with nine rebounds, while the junior Wejnert added to his team leading total with eight boards of his own.

On the men's side, the Yellow Jackets are off to a 2-3 start to the year after a 74-51 loss to New Haven last Tuesday snapped a two-game winning streak. Pace and AIC both rank in the top four of NE10 defenses, as Pace's 67.0 points allowed per game is the second-lowest total in the conference. AIC is not far behind, allowing 67.4 points to opposing offenses for the fourth-best mark in the NE10.
