PLEASANTVILLE, N.Y. – Playing their first NE10 home game of the season, the Pace University women's basketball team earned a 60-57 win over the College of Saint Rose on Tuesday night. The victory shifts the Setters' record to 2-0 at home this season, and 1-1 inside the NE10.
It was once again a strong defensive effort that led to Pace's success on Tuesday. Saint Rose was able to shoot just 40 percent from the floor, while the Setters forced 17 turnovers and racked up 10 steals. Four different Pace players recorded multiple takeaways in the contest.
The Blue and Gold's suffocating defense made the most impact in the second and third quarters. After taking a two-point lead into the break, the Setters outscored Saint Rose by a 17-8 margin in the third quarter.
Pace's edge would grow to as big as 12 mid-way through the fourth before Saint Rose made its comeback. The Golden Knights rattled off an 18-7 stretch to cut the lead to just one with 11 seconds on the clock.
Following an immediate foul, sophomore
Iliana Krasniqi (Fairfield, CT/Fairfield Warde) knocked in a pair of clutch free throws to stretch the lead back up to three. Fittingly, the game would then end on a final defensive stand by Pace as Saint Rose struggled to get a three-pointer off.
Offensively, sophomore
Lauren Schetter (Beacon, NY/Beacon High School) led the way for the Blue and Gold, finishing the night one point shy of a new career-best. The Beacon, N.Y. native poured in an efficient 22 points (9-of-13 from the floor) to go along with nine rebounds, two assists and a steal.
Krasniqi and freshman
Brianna Wong (River Vale, NJ/Pascack Valley) joined Schetter in double figures—each putting in 10 points. Freshman
Lauren Hackett (Commack, NY/St. Anthony's) chipped in a solid stat line of five points, three steals and pair of steals.
