Pace Men's Basketball Wins Third-Straight at Home; Defeats Saint Rose, 73-69

PLEASANTVILLE, N.Y. – The Pace University men's basketball team recorded their third-straight home victory on Tuesday night courtesy of a 73-69 triumph over the College of Saint Rose. The win— Pace's first over the Golden Knights since 2014—moves their record to 3-2 this season, including a 1-1 mark inside the NE10.

In a back-and-forth battle from tip-off, it was a three-pointer off the hands of Austin Gilbertson (Etters, PA/Trinity) with one minute on the clock that proved the difference. The sophomore's clutch long ball followed a Saint Rose three-pointer that tied the game at 69-69.

After taking the three-point edge, the Setters closed out the game with three-consecutive defensive stops, along with a free throw from Ray Montilus (Union, NJ/Pope John XXII) that iced the game with three seconds left in the contest.

The Setters were led by a pair of double-doubles in the game from Peyton Wejnert (Point Pleasant, NJ/Southern Regional) and Brandon Jacobs (Cambria Heights, NY/Long Island Lutheran). Wejnert finished the night with a game-high 21 points, to go along with 11 boards. Jacobs served as the Blue and Gold's facilitator, dishing out a career-high 10 assists. He also put in 12 points, and registered four team-best steals.

Greg Poleon (Brooklyn, NY/Abraham Lincoln / Coffeyville CC) joined in with a stellar night offensively, making seven of his eight attempts from the field for 17 points. Gilbertson served as the final Setter in double figures with 11 points.

Pace did a lot of its damage from the free-throw line, making a season-best 23 shots from the charity stripe. Jacobs and Wejnert were especially aggressive—each knocking in nine foul shots.

The Setters also showed off their defensive prowess in the victory, forcing 17 Saint Rose turnovers. The Golden Knights shot just 37.5 percent from the field.
