ALBANY, N.Y. – In the first contest of a two-match upstate swing, the Pace University volleyball team earned a 3-2 win (21-25, 25-18, 16-25, 25-22, 15-12) over the College of Saint Rose on Friday night. The victory moves the Setters' record to 15-3 this season, including 4-1 inside the Northeast-10 Conference.
After falling to a 2-1 deficit, the Setters rattled off two-straight sets to clinch the win. Senior
Claudia Fontanet (Bayamon, Puerto Rico/Academia Maria Reina) put together her best match of the season, tallying team-bests in both kills (18) and hitting percentage (.289). Junior
Tatjana Calimpong-Burke (Waianae, HI/Iolani) also put forward a strong effort, posting 15 putaways and six digs.
Freshman
Sandra Yang (Bothell, WA/Edmonds-Woodway) was Pace's final performer in double figures, recording 13 kills. Junior
Samantha Nidini (Houston, TX/Clearlake) dished out a season-high 28 assists, to go along with six kills, 13 digs, and three service aces.
Defensively,
Kathleen Benson (Kings Park, NY/Kings Park) and
Danielle Vaiano (Seaford, NY/St. Anthony's) led the way. Benson registered three total blocks in the contest while
Danielle Vaiano (Seaford, NY/St. Anthony's) picked up a team-high 14 digs.
