Pace Volleyball Sweeps Merrimack on the Road

NORTH ANDOVER, Mass. – Taking care of business in their final NE10 road match of the regular season, the Pace University volleyball team swept Merrimack College on Saturday afternoon. The 3-0 victory (25-20, 25-17, 25-14) moves the Setters to 19-7 (8-4 in the Northeast 10 Conference) entering the final week of the season, and was Pace's ninth sweep of the year.

The Setters hit .346 on the day, their third highest percentage of the year. A .438 mark in the first set put Pace firmly in control as the Blue and Gold took the first three games to secure the win.

Tatjana Calimpong-Burke (Waianae, HI/Iolani) was Pace's leading attacker with 12 kills, the junior's highest total in the past five matches. Christal Wong (Elk Grove, CA/Cosumnes Oaks) added 10 putaways for her best offensive match of the season.

Senior classmates Kathleen Benson (Kings Park, NY/Kings Park) and Claudia Fontanet (Bayamon, Puerto Rico/Academia Maria Reina) also put together strong efforts, posting identical lines of nine kills and .444 hitting percentages. They each made just one error on the afternoon, while Fontanet also chipped in nine digs.

Danielle Vaiano (Seaford, NY/St. Anthony's) recorded 16 digs, and has now reach double-figures digs in 24 of Pace's 26 matches. Meanwhile, Samantha Nidini (Houston, TX/Clearlake) racked up 35 of Pace's 45 assists on the day, marking a new season-high for the junior.
