MANCHESTER, N.H. – The Pace University volleyball team was defeated at Southern New Hampshire on Saturday afternoon in a five-set contest. The 3-2 loss (25-10, 25-22, 23-25, 20-25, 11-15) snaps a six-match winning streak for Pace, as the Blue and Gold move to 17-4 on the season with a 6-2 record in Northeast-10 Conference play.
The Setters were able to jump out to a 2-0 set advantage to open the match, but were unable to put the Penmen away for the decisive third set. Pace went ahead 23-21 in the third set, looking to earn the sweep, but SNHU rattled off four straight points to take the set and extend the match.
From there, the Penmen were able to ride the momentum from their comeback to take the final two sets. The teams were even at 10-10 in the ifth set, but SNHU scored five of the match's final six points to earn the win.
Claudia Fontanet (Bayamon, Puerto Rico/Academia Maria Reina) was Pace's leading attacker on the day with 17 kills, while hitting .371. She also recorded 16 digs for her fourth consecutive double-double.
Tatjana Calimpong-Burke (Waianae, HI/Iolani) added 13 kills to the Blue and Gold offense, while
Kathleen Benson (Kings Park, NY/Kings Park) and
Sandra Yang (Bothell, WA/Edmonds-Woodway) added 11 putaways each.
Danielle Vaiano (Seaford, NY/St. Anthony's) had a team-high 20 digs on Saturday.
Christal Wong (Elk Grove, CA/Cosumnes Oaks) joined Vaiano and Fontanet in double-figures with 12 digs of her own. On the assist front, it was the usual suspects of
Samantha Nidini (Houston, TX/Clearlake) and
Nicole Pivetti (Modena, Italy/Liceo Wiligelmo) making plays. The duo had 22 helpers apiece during the day.

Pace aims to get back in to the win column as they close out their eight-match road trip on Tuesday. The Setters travel to Holy Family University for a 6 p.m. match against the Tigers.
