PLEASANTVILLE, N.Y. – It was a joyous Senior Day for the Pace University swimming and diving teams as they combined to go 3-0 against Franklin Pierce University and the College of Saint Rose on Saturday afternoon. The women's squad notched a pair of wins to improve to 7-1 this season while, the Pace men recorded a victory over the Golden Knights to move to 3-4.
Women's Results (Win over FPU, 167-40 | Win over Saint Rose, 155-61)
It was a dominant effort for the Blue and Gold, who recorded 11 wins out of 13 total events. They kicked things off with a decisive victory in the 200-medley relay.
Annabel Keppel-Palmer (Kent, England/Maidstone Grammar School),
Leigha Kosakowski (Selkirk, NY/Bethlehem Central),
Joana Krause Massaguer (Premia de Mar, Spain/Institut Premia de Mar), and
Jana Ciric (Nis, Serbia/Gimnazija "Svetozar Markovic") teamed up for the win with a time of 1:53.22.
Ciric and Keppel-Palmer would each go on to record two individual wins to lead the squad with three total triumphs apiece. Ciric clocked top times in both the 200 (2:00.87) and 100-free (56.37), while Keppel-Palmer dominated the 400 IM (4:41.74) and the 100-back (1:00.86).
Kosakowski and Krause Massaguer were also victorious in solo action. Kosakowski topped the field in the 50-free (25.59) while Krause Massaguer earned first-place honors in the 500-free (5:28.81).
Sophomore
Margaret Triller (Glenmont, NY/Academy of the Holy Names) provided one of Pace's closest wins on the day in the 100-fly, touching the wall 0.16 seconds (1:04.64) faster than teammate
Cassandra Muldoon (Courtice, Ontario/Holy Trinity CSS).
In diving action, the Setters put together 1-2 finishes in both events. Junior
Alexis Heiney (Ivoryton, Conn/Mercy) edged teammate
Sophia Howard (Johnson City, NY/Maine Endwell) in the one-meter with a score of 2:44.62 before completing the sweep courtesy of a top mark of 262.55 in the three-meter.
The Setters' final points of the day came from the 200-free relay squad of Triller,
Diana Kaltenborn (Memphis, TN/St. Mary's Episcopal School),
Marta Hasny (Kedzierzyn-Kozle, POLAND/II Liceum Ogólnoksztalcace im. Mikolaja Kopernika), and
Madison Kiefer (Wayland, MA/Wayland High School), who swam to a first-place finish of 1:46.91.
Kiefer also impressed in exhibition action. She recorded the fifth-best mile time in the NE10 this season with a mark of 18:12.50.
Men's Results (Win over Saint Rose, 122-89)
Like the women's squad, the men also put together an impressive showing on Senior Day. The Setters racked up eight wins, including a sweep of the relays.
The relay squad of
JunWoo Moon (Tokyo, Japan/St. Mary's International School),
Alec Young (Loganville, GA/Archer),
Andresious Cyprianos (Bulawayo, Zimbabwe/Christian Brothers College), and
Filip Turecky (State College, PA/State College Area) kick-started Pace's efforts with a top time of 1:39.00 in the 200-medley.
Young was also triumphant individually, touching the wall first in the 100-breast. The freshman raced to a winning time of 1:03.75.
Speaking of individual wins,
Daniel Galarza (Edison, NJ/John P. Stevens) had three of them. The junior tallied low marks in the 500-free (4:51.70), 1,000-free (10:18.74) and 400 IM (4:20.27).
Senior
Brian Sosa (Bogota, Colombia/La Salle Bogota 170) and junior
Andresious Cyprianos (Bulawayo, Zimbabwe/Christian Brothers College) rounded out the Setters' solo victories. Sosa registered a first-place finish in the 200-free with a time of 1:48.73, while Cyprianos notched a win in the 50-free with a mark of 22.50.
The Blue and Gold's final 19 points came courtesy of a triumphant swim in the 200-free. The senior trio of Sosa,
Robert O'Gorman (Boca Raton, Fla./Grandview Preparatory), and
Jakub Lewandowski (Arvada, CO/Arvada West High School) were joined by
Dessaniel Jaquez (Dobbs Ferry, NY/Dobbs Ferry) to tally a winning time of 1:32.65.
In exhibition competition, freshman
Joshua Lozano (Helotes, TX/O'Connor) recorded a mile time of 17:10.80—which is currently the 8
th fastest in the NE10 this season.
