NORTH ANDOVER, Mass. – Senior goalkeeper
Hayley Pascoal (Freehold, NJ/Freehold Township) recorded a career-high nine saves to help the Pace University women's soccer team to a 2-0 win over Merrimack College on Saturday. The victory moves the Setters to 4-2 inside the Northeast-10 Conference this season.
In addition to posting her first shutout of the season, Pascoal lowers her goals-against average to just 0.76 in more than 590 minutes of action. Pascoal has been especially impressive recently, allowing just a single tally over her last four games.
In a defensive battle that stayed scoreless into the second half, junior
Victoria Kealy (Nutley, NJ/Nutley) finally broke through for the Setters. Kealy rocketed a shot over Merrimack's keeper from the left side of the box to provide Pace a 1-0 lead in the 61
st minute. Freshman
Gabby Lucas (Beacon, NY/Beacon) notched her third assist of the season (team-high) on the tally.
Kealy also supplied the Blue and Gold with some insurance, notching her fourth goal of the season just about 12 minutes later. Freshman
Mackenzie Kurek (Goshen, NY/Goshen Central) earned the assist on the play after finding Kealy with a perfect through ball behind the Warrior defense.
Kealy, who has scored all of her goals in Pace's last six games, is now tied with senior
Emma Sinanan (Toms River, NJ/Toms River East) for the team lead.
