No. 7 Pace Field Hockey Improves to 7-1 with Shut Out of Adelphi

PLEASANTVILLE, N.Y. – Highlighted by a season-high 10 saves from goalkeeper Lesly Sanchez Alvarez (Stamford, CT/Stamford), the seventh-ranked Pace University field hockey team defeated Adelphi by a 2-0 margin on Tuesday afternoon. The win moves the Setters to 7-1 this season, and 3-1 against Northeast-10 Conference foes.

As has been the case for most of the season, the Setters found themselves in a defensive battle for much of the afternoon against the Panthers. Luckily for the home team, Sanchez Alvarez was up to the task. In addition to the season-best save total, the senior keeper posted her fourth shutout of the season and lowered her goals-against average to a paltry 0.61 this season.

Following a scoreless first half—which saw each goalkeeper make six saves—play opened up a bit in the second 35. Pace finally put a tally on the board at 57:28 off a nice connection between Jane Kasparian (Mahopac, NY/Mahopac) and Lisette de Bruin (Bilthoven, Netherlands/Het Nieuwe Lyceum). Kasparian rifled a perfectly placed cross from the right side of the goal that de Bruin handled and ricocheted into the back of the net.

De Bruin also had a hand in Pace's second goal just five minutes later. The freshman earned the assist this time, dishing off to sophomore Rachel Beam (Red Hook, NY/Stissing Mountain) for her first tally of the season.

The Panthers attempted a rally late in the second half, but Sanchez Alvarez closed the door with a pair of saves in the final four minutes.
