KANEOHE, Hawai'I – On the first leg of a season-opening trip to the Aloha State, the Pace University women's soccer team dropped a 2-1 overtime decision to Hawaii Pacific University.
With both squads seeing their first action of 2017, it was a defensive battle in the early going. A scoreless first half saw just five total shots, two of which made their way on goal.
The field opened up a bit more in the second half, culminating in a goal on each side in an eight-minute span. Senior
Emma Sinanan (Toms River, NJ/Toms River East) provided Pace's tally, giving the visitors a 1-0 lead at the 53:53 mark. Freshman
Lynzee Kelty (Narrowsburg, NY/Eldred) earned the assist on the play with a nice setup at the top of the box.
Moments later, the Sharks struck back courtesy of a goal from sophomore Ebony Madrid. Madrid made the most of a cross from Nina Gonzalez.
Following almost 30 more minutes of scoreless action, the contest went into overtime. Hawaii Pacific notched the game-winner off a corner kick just 2:18 into extra time.
