LAKEWOOD, N.J. – Freshman forward
Gina Henson (Carmel, NY/) recorded her first-career goal just 6:19 into overtime to deliver the Pace University women's soccer team a 1-0 win over Georgian Court University on Wednesday night. With the triumph, the Setters improve to 1-2 on the early season.
Despite slippery conditions, Henson was able to find enough footing to loft a 30-foot shot over the GCU goalie's head to clinch Pace's first victory of the season. Fellow freshman
Gabby Lucas (Beacon, NY/Beacon) earned the assist on the play, giving both Setters their first-career points.
The Blue and Gold were outshot by the home team, 11-8, but the defense held firm all night long. Senior goalkeepers
Hayley Pascoal (Freehold, NJ/Freehold Township) and
Aisha Chauhan (Carteret, NJ/Carteret) totaled five saves to combine for the shutout. Pascoal has still yet to allow a tally in 135 minutes of action this season.
