Pace Softball Falls Twice at Stonehill

NORTH EASTON, Mass. – The Pace University softball team dropped a pair of cross-divisional Northeast-10 Conference contests at Stonehill College Saturday afternoon. The Setters fell in Game 1, 8-0, in five innings, and dropped the finale, 3-1.
 
GAME 1: STONEHILL 8, PACE 0 (5 INNINGS)
SCORING PLAYS
Bottom 2nd – Stonehill
- Pitcher Cassandra Squeri and center fielder Lianna Jordan both hit solo home runs in the second to give the Skyhawks a 2-0 lead.
 
Bottom 3rd – Stonehill
- A bases-loaded walk for Jordan made it a 3-0 lead for the home team.
- Third baseman Carly Rennie then hit a three-RBI double to left-center, improving the Skyhawk lead to 6-0.
 
Bottom 4th – Stonehill
- Squeri brought in another run on a fielder's choice to make it a seven-run lead for Stonehill.
- The lead moved to eight runs when second baseman Sophie Perez reached on an error, bringing in the final run of the game.
 
GAME 1 PITCHING DECISIONS
Win: Cassandra Squeri (2-8)
Loss: Kaitlynn Nelson (Ojai, CA/Nordhoff) (5-3)
 
Pitching Notes
- Squeri allowed one hit and struck out three for the five-inning complete-game victory.
 
GAME 1 SETTER STATS
- Freshman Jillian Gartner (Encinitas, CA/San Dieguito Academy) broke up the no-hitter with a single in the top of the fifth.
 
GAME 1 SKYHAWK LEADERS
- Rennie knocked in three runs after going 1-for-1 with a double.
- Squeri and Jordan each hit 1-for-2 with a home run.
 
 
GAME 2: STONEHILL 3, PACE 1
SCORING PLAYS
Top 2nd – Pace
- A pair of walks put two runners on for the Setters in the second.
- Senior catcher Nikole Larm (Brewster, NY/Brewster) then reached on a fielder's choice in which all runners were safe, loading the bases for junior left fielder Tara Bernstein (Glen Oaks, NY/Bayside High School).
- Bernstein drew another walk, plating the first run of the game to give Pace 1-0 advantage early on.
 
Bottom 6th – Stonehill
- With a runner on, Squeri hit her second homer of the day, putting the home team ahead, 2-1.
- Perez followed with a solo home run, putting Stonehill up, 3-1.
 
GAME 2 PITCHING DECISIONS
Win: Jennifer Mayette (3-7)
Loss: Emma Bernet (Baldwinsville, NY/Charles W Baker) (2-3)
 
Pitching Notes
- Freshman pitcher Emma Bernet (Baldwinsville, NY/Charles W Baker) finished up allowing three runs on five hits across six innings to shoulder the loss.
- Stonehill starter Jennifer Mayette allowed one unearned run on two hits and six walks to pick up the win.
 
GAME 2 SETTER STATS
- Larm batted 1-for-3 with a double.
- Junior right fielder Jordan Chillinsky (Carlsbad, CA/Carlsbad High School) hit 1-for-2 with a run scored.
- Bernstein went 0-for-2, but picked up the lone RBI.
 
GAME 2 SKYHAWK LEADERS
- Squeri batted 2-for-3 with a two-run homer.
- Perez hit 1-for-2 with a home run.
