BRIARCLIFF MANOR, N.Y. – The Pace University softball team split a regular-season-concluding non-conference doubleheader against Dominican College Sunday afternoon at Pace Field. The Setters picked up a 4-1 win in Game 1, but dropped the finale, 3-1.
GAME 1: PACE 4, DOMINICAN 1
SCORING PLAYS
Bottom 1st – Pace
- Junior center fielder
Larissa Labs (Carlsbad, CA/San Marcos High School) reached on an error that sent her to second base to start the first.
- Labs then stole third, and scored on a wild pitch to give Pace a quick 1-0 lead.
- Senior second baseman
Haley Hernandez (West Hills, CA/El Camino Real) then drew a walk, and senior designated player
Samantha Lima (Brawley, CA/Saddleback College) was hit by a pitch.
- Junior right fielder
Jordan Chillinsky (Carlsbad, CA/Carlsbad High School) then bunted both runners into scoring position, and freshman left fielder
Stephanie Wang (Arcadia, CA/Arcadia) grounded out to second, scoring Hernandez to give Pace a 2-0 advantage early on.
Bottom 3rd – Pace
- The Setters got three straight singles from Lima, Chillinsky and Wang to start the third.
- With two away, senior catcher
Nikole Larm (Brewster, NY/Brewster) singled through the left side, plating Chillinsky to put the Setters up, 3-0.
Top 4th – Dominican
- With a runner on second, third baseman Taylor Gilligan singled to left, knocking in the Chargers' only run of the game.
Bottom 4th – Pace
- Hernandez hit a two-out solo home run over the left-field fence to give the Setters a 4-1 edge over the Chargers.

- Senior starter
Kaitlynn Nelson (Ojai, CA/Nordhoff) went the complete seven innings, allowing just one run on five hits with four strikeouts for the win.

- Second baseman Taylor Daniels later reached on a dropped fly ball, scoring Fitzgerald to give the Chargers a 1-0 lead.
Top 4th – Dominican
- First baseman Shannon Truppi singled with one away, and then catcher Alexandria Ledgerwood hit a two-run homer to put the visitors ahead, 3-0.
Bottom 6th – Pace
- The Setters put runners on second and third, and then Lima singled through the left side, scoring freshman second baseman

- Pace earned the No. 2 seed out of the Northeast-10 Conference Southwest Division, giving the Setters a bye in the First Round and advancing them to the first day of NE10 Championship Weekend, which will be hosted by Northeast Division Champion, Merrimack College. The Setters will play on Thursday, May 4, against the winner of No. 3 Assumption College and No. 4 Southern New Hampshire University.
