Pace Softball Falls Late to AIC

SPRINGFIELD, Mass. – The Pace University softball team fell to American International College (AIC) by a score of 3-2 in Sunday's Northeast-10 Conference Southwest Division matchup after AIC shortstop Yami Lopez-Perez hit a walkoff single in the bottom of the seventh.
 
GAME 1: AIC 3, PACE 2
SCORING PLAYS
Top 1st – Pace
- Junior shortstop Ashley Lew (New City, NY/Clarkstown High School North) opened the game with a walk, and was sacrificed over to second by senior second baseman Haley Hernandez (West Hills, CA/El Camino Real).
- Lew eventually stole third, and was then knocked in on a single by junior right fielder Jordan Chillinsky (Carlsbad, CA/Carlsbad High School) to give Pace a quick 1-0 advantage.
 
Bottom 1st – AIC
- Left fielder Kristen Steele beat out a bunt to third to open the first with a single.
- Steele then stole second, and was knocked in by second baseman Sarah Baganz on a single through the right side to tie the game.
 
Top 2nd – Pace
- Senior catcher Nikole Larm (Brewster, NY/Brewster) reached on an error to kick off the second.
- She was sacrificed over to second, and then a single by sophomore third baseman Lindsey Ah Soon (Ena Beach, HI/Kamehameha Kapalama) put runners on the corners.
- Freshman left fielder Stephanie Wang (Arcadia, CA/Arcadia) then singled into right-center, scoring Larm to put the Setters up, 2-1.
 
Bottom 3rd – AIC
- Baganz singled with one away, and then stole second.
- Baganz later moved to third on a wild pitch, and then scored on a single by catcher Jamie Mainez, tying the game at 2-2.
 
Bottom 7th – AIC
- Steele led off the seventh with a double down the left-field line.
- Baganz then singled on a bunt and moved to second on the play, putting both runners into scoring position.
- Lopez-Perez then singled up the middle, scoring Steele for the walkoff win.
 
PITCHING DECISIONS
Win: Jillian Bedard (7-5)
Loss: Emma Bernet (Baldwinsville, NY/Charles W Baker) (5-5)
 
SETTER STATS
- Wang hit 2-for-3 with an RBI.
- Lew batted 1-for-3 with a run scored and a stolen base.
- Chillinsky went 1-for-3 with an RBI.
