GARDEN CITY, N.Y. – The Pace University softball team rallied for four runs in the bottom of the seventh, but the Setters came up just short on Wednesday, dropping a 7-6 decision to Adelphi University in Northeast-10 Conference Southwest Division Action. Wednesday's scheduled finale was postponed, and will now be played on Thursday, April 27, at 3 p.m. at Pace Field in Briarcliff Manor, N.Y.
SCORING PLAYS
Bottom 2nd – Pace
- Freshman designated player
Emma Schafer (Mission Viejo, CA/El Toro) led off the second with a single.
- Sophomore third baseman
Lindsey Ah Soon (Ena Beach, HI/Kamehameha Kapalama) then singled, and both runners advanced on an error to put both in scoring position.
- Junior shortstop
Ashley Lew (New City, NY/Clarkstown High School North) then smacked a single into center, scoring both runners to put the Setters ahead, 2-0.
Top 4th – Adelphi
- Right fielder Elisabeth Berard drew a walk with one away, and then Megan Lewis singled to left to get two runners on.
- A ground out moved both runners into scoring position, and then center fielder Krista King singled to left, bringing in Berard to make it a 2-1 game.
Top 5th – Adelphi
- With the bases loaded, an error allowed two runs to come in, putting the Panthers ahead, 3-2.
Top 6th – Adelphi
- After a pair of walks, second baseman Nicole Camera hit a two-RBI triple to right-center, putting the home team up, 5-2.
- Later, an error allowed Camera to score, making it a 6-2 ballgame.
Top 7th – Adelphi
- Catcher Nicoletta Cuccio doubled down the left-field line with one down, and an error later in the inning after a single by Camera brought her in to score and make it 7-2.
Bottom 7th – Pace
- Lew led off the seventh with a triple to deep center.
- Senior second baseman
Haley Hernandez (West Hills, CA/El Camino Real) then singled her in, getting Pace back within four.
- Freshman left fielder
Stephanie Wang (Arcadia, CA/Arcadia) followed with a single to right-center, putting runners on the corners with nobody out.
- Junior right fielder
Jordan Chillinsky (Carlsbad, CA/Carlsbad High School) then hit a sacrifice fly to center, scoring Hernandez to make it a three-run game.
- Junior center fielder
Larissa Labs (Carlsbad, CA/San Marcos High School) then singled to center to get two runners on.
- With two down in the inning, senior catcher
Nikole Larm (Brewster, NY/Brewster) roped a two-RBI double to left-center, getting the Setters within a run at 7-6.
- Pace's rally ended on a ground out to the pitcher, leaving the Setters down by a run.
