SPRINGFIELD, Mass. – The Pace University softball team split a crucial Northeast-10 Conference Southwest Division doubleheader with American International College (AIC) Saturday afternoon in Springfield, Mass. The Setters claimed a 3-1 win in Game 1, but fell, 1-0, in the finale.
GAME 1: PACE 3, AIC 1
SCORING PLAYS
Top 1st – Pace
- Junior shortstop
Ashley Lew (New City, NY/Clarkstown High School North) led off the game with a triple to deep center.
- Senior second baseman
Haley Hernandez (West Hills, CA/El Camino Real) made it a quick 1-0 lead for Pace with an RBI single up the middle.
Bottom 1st – AIC
- The Yellow Jackets tied the game in the bottom of the first when they executed a double steal with runners on first and third.
Top 3rd - Pace
- Lew walked to lead off the third, and then quickly swiped second base.
- Hernandez then singled up the middle, bringing in Lew once again to put the Setters ahead, 2-1.
Top 5th – Pace
- With nobody on, Hernandez blasted a homer to left-center, giving Pace a 3-1 lead.

- Senior pitcher
Kaitlynn Nelson (Ojai, CA/Nordhoff) went the complete seven innings, allowing just one run on two hits with six strikeouts to earn her seventh win of the year.

- Hernandez had a big game, going 3-for-4 with three RBIs, a run scored and a solo homer.
- Lew batted 1-for-3 with two runs, a triple and a stolen base.
