No. 6/7 Pace Men’s Lacrosse Makes Late Run to Defeat Assumption for Fifth Straight Win

WORCESTER, Mass. – After falling behind late in the third quarter, the No. 6/7 Pace University men's lacrosse team score four of the last five goals on Saturday to pick up a 9-7 victory over Assumption College in Northeast-10 Conference action at the Multi-Sport Stadium. The Setters are now riding a five-game winning streak heading into the final game of the regular season.
 
FIRST QUARTER
- Travis Reid and Jason Hughes both scored in the first two minutes for the Greyhounds to give the home team a quick 2-0 lead.
- Junior Joshua Kreitler (Shelton, CT/Shelton) got Pace on the board at the 10:38 mark, and then junior Michael Pappalardo (Ossining, NY/Ossining) tied the game two minutes later.
- Sophomore Bradley Paterson (Caldwell, NJ/Depaul Catholic) then gave the Setters the lead 23 seconds later, and he scored once again at the 3:23 to give the Setters a 4-2 lead.
 
SECOND QUARTER
- Junior Liam Brennan (Huntington Station, NY/Walt Whitman) scored the only goal for Pace in the second quarter, and then Reid scored one for Assumption, sending the game to the half with the Setters leading, 5-3.
 
THIRD QUARTER
- Reid netted his third of the day at the 11:50 mark of the third to make it a one-goal game, and then Patrick Ward scored a little later to tie the game at 5-5.
- Dan Farrell put the Greyhounds in the lead at the 5:07 mark.
- Sophomore Kevin Vogelsberg (Wantagh, NY/Holy Trinity Diocesan) tied the game again for Pace with just 21 seconds left in the third, and then freshman Spencer DeRosa (Huntington Station, NY/Walt Whitman) put Pace ahead just 14 seconds later to head to the final frame with a 7-6 lead.
 
FOURTH QUARTER
- Brett Jennings tied it up again just two minutes into the fourth, but Paterson scored shortly after to give the Setters an 8-7 advantage with 11:45 to play.
- Vogelsberg added another at the 9:16 mark, and then the Setters shut the Greyhounds down the rest of the way to hold on for the two-goal win.

Loss: Colby Hamwey (5-6)
 
Goalkeeper Notes
- Junior goalkeeper Robert Beshlian (Wantagh, NY/Wantagh) made 10 saves to earn his 10th victory of the season.
 
SETTER STATS
- Paterson finished with a game-high six points on three goals and three assists, while also added four ground balls.
- Vogelsberg scored twice later in the game, and added an assist for a three-point afternoon. He also scooped up three ground balls.
- Sophomore Steven Weindler (Shoreham, NY/Shoreham Wading River) grabbed a game-high eight ground balls after winning 13-of-19 faceoffs.
- Sophomores Vincent Vasheo (Wantagh, NY/Wantagh), Matthew Simone (Seaford, NY/Seaford) and Wyatt Barfoot (Georgian Bluffs, Ontario/St. Mary's) each dished out an assist in the win.
 
GREYHOUND LEADERS
- Trevor Kennedy had a team-high four points on four assists and also picked up four ground balls.
- Reid scored three times and added a ground ball.

- The playoff-bound Setters host Franklin Pierce University on Friday, April 28, in their regular-season finale and Senior Night at Pace Stadium. The opening faceoff is set for 6 p.m.
