BRIARCLIFF MANOR, N.Y. – Junior shortstop
Ashley Lew (New City, NY/Clarkstown High School North) had a big day at the plate with three triples across two games, as the Pace University softball team split a Northeast-10 Conference Southwest Division doubleheader with the College of Saint Rose Sunday afternoon at Pace Field. The Setters picked up an eight-run rule victory after five innings in Game 1, winning 13-1, but fell in the finale, 6-4.
GAME 1: PACE 13, SAINT ROSE 1 (5 INNINGS)
SCORING PLAYS
Bottom 1st – Pace
- Lew led off the first inning of Game 1 with her first triple of the day.
- Lew was then brought in to score on a sacrifice fly by junior center fielder
Larissa Labs (Carlsbad, CA/San Marcos High School), putting the Setters up, 1-0.
Bottom 2nd – Pace
- The Setters loaded the bases with nobody out in the second.
- Sophomore first baseman
Annie Carberry (Colorado Springs, CO/Pine Creek) then singled down the right-field line, scoring junior right fielder
Jordan Chillinsky (Carlsbad, CA/Carlsbad High School) to make it a 2-0 game.
- Lew later hit her second straight triple, this time to deep left-center, scoring three more runs to give the Setters a 5-0 lead.
- Senior second baseman
Haley Hernandez (West Hills, CA/El Camino Real) then hit a sacrifice fly to center, scoring Lew to put Pace up by six.
Top 3rd – Saint Rose
- Briana Bowen singled with a runner on second, and a bobbled ball allowed the runner to score to get the Golden Knights on the board.
Bottom 4th – Pace
- Pace had the bases loaded with one away when Hernandez hit an RBI single up the middle to put the Setters back ahead by six.
- Labs followed with a single of her own to make it an 8-1 game.
- Lew then scored on a passed ball to make it 9-1.
- Sophomore third baseman
Lindsey Ah Soon (Ena Beach, HI/Kamehameha Kapalama) then stroked a two-RBI single up the middle to give the Setters a 11-1 lead.
- Freshman
Emma Carruth (Torrance, CA/Beverly Hills) reached on a dropped fly ball to left, allowing another run to score and make it 12-1 Pace.
- Carberry added an RBI single to right-center, scoring Ah Soon to put Pace up by 12 and eventually force the eight-run rule finish.

Pitching Notes
- Senior starter
Kaitlynn Nelson (Ojai, CA/Nordhoff) went the full five innings without allowing an earned run. She struck out five batters and yielded just three hits.
GAME 1 SETTER STATS
- Lew batted 2-for-3 with three RBIs, three runs and two triples.
- Hernandez and Labs both went 1-for-2 with two RBIs and a run apiece.
- Ah Soon finished 1-for-3 with two RBIs and two runs scored.
- Labs hit 1-for-2 with two RBIs and a run scored.

- First baseman Kayla Bancroft hit 1-for-2.
- Pitcher Dana Nicoletti and right fielder Briana Bowen each batted 1-for-3.

SCORING PLAYS
Bottom 5th – Pace
- After four scoreless frames, the Setters finally broke the tie in the bottom of the fifth.
- Freshman left fielder
Stephanie Wang (Arcadia, CA/Arcadia) singled to left-center, and moved over to second on a wild pitch.
- Hernandez then singled her in, giving Pace a 1-0 lead.
Top 6th – Saint Rose
- With two down in the inning, the Golden Knights picked up their first hit of the game, and turned that into five more hits, resulting in six runs coming in to score to give Saint Rose a 6-1 advantage.
Bottom 6th – Pace
- Chillinsky singled to right-center with one away, and then junior
Tara Bernstein (Glen Oaks, NY/Bayside High School) hit a pinch-hit double to put two runners in scoring position.
- Senior catcher
Nikole Larm (Brewster, NY/Brewster) then roped a double off the wall in left, bringing in both runners to get Pace back within three.
Bottom 7th – Pace
- Lew hit her third triple with one away in the seventh, and then scored on an RBI groundout by Hernandez to make it a 6-4 ballgame.

Jaclyn Flores (Escondido, CA/San Pasqual High School) had a perfect game going until having it broken up with two outs in the top of the sixth.

- Lew hit 2-for-4 with another triple and a run scored.
- Larm went 1-for-3 with a two-RBI double.
- Chillinsky batted 2-for-3 with a run and a double.

- Bancroft went 1-for-3 with a three-RBI triple.
- Center fielder Astasia Myler hit 1-for-3 with two RBIs, a run and a double.
- Shortstop Carly Wood batted 1-for-3 with a run and an RBI.
