Larm Hits Extra-Inning Walkoff Homer to Lift Pace Softball over Adelphi; Game 2 Postponed

BRIARCLIFF MANOR, N.Y. – Senior catcher Nikole Larm (Brewster, NY/Brewster) launched a walkoff two-run homer in the bottom of the eighth inning, giving the Pace University softball team a 10-8 extra-inning victory over Adelphi University in Wednesday's Northeast-10 Conference Southwest Division matchup at Pace Field. Wednesday's scheduled second game was postponed due to the length of the first game, and will be made up as part of a doubleheader at Adelphi on Tuesday, April 25.
 
SCORING PLAYS
Bottom 1st – Pace
- Junior shortstop Ashley Lew (New City, NY/Clarkstown High School North) was hit by a pitch to start the inning.
- Senior second baseman Haley Hernandez (West Hills, CA/El Camino Real) then dropped a perfect bunt toward the second baseman for an infield single.
- Senior designated player Samantha Lima (Brawley, CA/Saddleback College) sacrificed the runners into scoring position, and then junior right fielder Jordan Chillinsky (Carlsbad, CA/Carlsbad High School) walked to load the bases.
- Junior center fielder Larissa Labs (Carlsbad, CA/San Marcos High School) then hit a frozen rope that cleared the right-field fence for a grand slam, giving Pace a quick 4-0 lead.
- Larm, sophomore first baseman Annie Carberry (Colorado Springs, CO/Pine Creek) and sophomore third baseman Lindsey Ah Soon (Ena Beach, HI/Kamehameha Kapalama) walked in consecutive trips to the plate to load the bases once again.
- Freshman left fielder Stephanie Wang (Arcadia, CA/Arcadia) then ripped a single into left-center, scoring Larm and Carberry to put the Setters ahead, 6-0.
 
Top 2nd – Adelphi
- Designated player Lauren Sandelier opened the second with a walk, and then right fielder Stephanie Staiano singled to center.
- Both runners were moved up on a sacrifice bunt by Berard, and then Sandelier came in to score on a sacrifice fly to center by first baseman Fallon McCarthy to cut the deficit to five.
 
Top 3rd – Adelphi
- Catcher Nicole Cuccio walked with one away, and moved all the way to third on a pair of wild pitches.
- She then scored when third baseman Brenna Martini reached on an error, making it a 6-2 ballgame.
 
Top 6th ­– Adelphi
- The Panthers rallied for six runs in the top of the sixth.
- Shortstop Danielle Cutuli and center fielder Krista King hit back-to-back two-RBI doubles, and then Cuccio stroked a two-run homer to put the visitors up, 8-6.
 
Bottom 6th – Pace
- Lima singled to left with one away, followed by another single for Chillinsky, which also included an error in the outfield that put both runners in scoring position.
- Labs was then intentionally walked, and freshman Emma Schafer (Mission Viejo, CA/El Toro) managed to then draw a walk in her pinch-hitting opportunity to get Pace back within one.
- Carberry then hit a sacrifice fly to left, bringing in Chillinsky to tie the game at 8-8, which eventually sent the game to extra innings.
 
Bottom 8th – Pace
- After Labs singled with one away, Larm blasted a two-run homer over the left-field fence, giving Pace the walkoff 10-8 victory.

Loss: Jessica Vadala (10-3)
 
SETTER STATS
- Larm finished 1-for-3 with two RBIs, two runs and a walkoff two-run homer in the eighth.
- Labs went 2-for-2 with four RBIs, two runs scored and a grand slam.
- Carberry hit 2-for-2 with an RBI, a run scored and a stolen base.
- Hernandez batted 2-for-5 with a run scored.

- Cuccio batted 1-for-4 with two RBIs, two runs and a two-run homer.
- King hit 1-for-4 with two RBIs, a run scored and a double.
