Early Scoring Fuels Pace Softball to Doubleheader Sweep of Le Moyne

SYRACUSE, N.Y. – The Pace University softball team took an early lead in both ends of Friday's doubleheader at Le Moyne College, helping the Setters to a pair of crucial Northeast-10 Conference Southwest Division victories on the road. Pace took the first game, 5-2, and closed out the day with a 7-2 victory over the Dolphins.
 
GAME 1: PACE 5, LE MOYNE 2
SCORING PLAYS
Top 1st – Pace
- Junior shortstop Ashley Lew (New City, NY/Clarkstown High School North) opened the game with a walk and quickly stole second base.
- She was then sacrificed over to third, and brought in to score on a sacrifice fly by senior designated player Samantha Lima (Brawley, CA/Saddleback College), giving Pace a quick 1-0 lead.
 
Bottom 1st – Le Moyne
- Catcher Ally Nicolosi led off with a single for the Dolphins, and right fielder Madison DeRita followed with a single of her own.
- Both runners were moved over on a sacrifice bunt, and then a ground out by first baseman Peyton Bellrose brought in Nicolosi to tie the game.
 
Top 3rd – Pace
- Lew doubled with one away to get a runner in scoring position.
- Later in the inning, Lima blasted a two-run homer to left, putting the Setters on top, 3-1.
 
Bottom 3rd – Le Moyne
- Nicolosi and DeRita hit back-to-back singles again, and later in the inning, Bellrose singled in Nicolosi to get the Dolphins back within a run at 3-2.
 
Top 7th – Pace
- Sophomore third baseman Lindsey Ah Soon (Ena Beach, HI/Kamehameha Kapalama) led off with a single to left, and was then sacrificed over to second.
- Lew was then hit by a pitch, and both runners stole a base to put two runners into scoring position.
- Lima was intentionally walked to load the bases, but junior right fielder Jordan Chillinsky (Carlsbad, CA/Carlsbad High School) made the Dolphins pay for that decision with a two-RBI single to center putting Pace ahead, 5-2.
 
GAME 1 PITCHING DECISIONS
Win: Jaclyn Flores (Escondido, CA/San Pasqual High School) (5-5)
Loss: Alexis Eastman (11-8)
 
Pitching Notes
- Junior pitcher Jaclyn Flores (Escondido, CA/San Pasqual High School) went the complete seven innings, giving up just two runs on eight hits while striking out six to pick up her fifth win.
 
GAME 1 SETTER STATS
- Lima hit 1-for-2 with a home run, three RBIs and a run.
- Chillinsky batted 3-for-4 with two RBIs and a double.
- Lew went 1-for-2 with three runs, a double and two stolen bases.
 
GAME 1 DOLPHIN LEADERS
- Nicolosi hit 2-for-3 with two runs scored.
- Bellrose went 1-for-4 with two RBIs.
- DeRita batted 3-for-3.
 
 
GAME 2: PACE 7, LE MOYNE 2
SCORING PLAYS
Top 1st – Pace
- With two away, Lima singled up the middle to keep the inning alive.
- Chillinsky followed with another hit up the middle, and then junior center fielder Larissa Labs (Carlsbad, CA/San Marcos High School) beat out a single to second base to load the bases.
- Freshman second baseman Emma Carruth (Torrance, CA/Beverly Hills) was then hit by a pitch, bringing in the first run of the game.
- Senior catcher Nikole Larm (Brewster, NY/Brewster) then ripped a single up the gut to bring in two runs and leave Pace ahead, 3-0.
 
Bottom 1st – Le Moyne
- Nicolosi led off with a single to right, and then DeRita singled to left to quickly get two runners on.
- Third baseman Kelly Mascari walked with one away to load the bases, and then center fielder Sabrina Riley hit a two-RBI single up the middle to make it a 3-2 game.
 
Top 3rd – Pace
- Lima led off the third with a single to center.
- Labs later singled up the middle to put two runners on.
- With two outs, Larm slammed a three-run homer over the wall in left-center field to put the Setters ahead, 6-2.
 
Top 4th – Pace
- Lew singled up the middle with one away in the fourth, and later moved to second on an error by the catcher.
- Later in the frame, Lima singled to left, scoring Lew from second to make it a 7-2 Pace lead.
 
GAME 2 PITCHING DECISIONS
Win: Emma Bernet (Baldwinsville, NY/Charles W Baker) (4-3)
Loss: Marisa DuVal (0-2)
 
Pitching Notes
- Freshman pitcher Emma Bernet (Baldwinsville, NY/Charles W Baker) tossed the full seven innings, yielding just two runs on eight hits with a pair of strikeouts to earn her fourth victory.
 
GAME 2 SETTER STATS
- Larm had a big game, going 3-for-4 with five RBIs, a run scored and a three-run homer.
- Lima went 3-for-4 with two runs and an RBI.
- Labs finished 2-for-3 with two runs scored.
- Chillinsky hit 2-for-4 and scored a run.

- Riley went 2-for-3 with two RBIs and a double.
