Haimson Ties Points Record as No. 13 Pace Women’s Lacrosse Grounds SCSU

NEW HAVEN, Conn. – Junior Abby Haimson (Montville, NJ/Montville) totaled eight points on Wednesday, tying the program's single-game record set just four days ago by junior Casey Gelderman (Farmingville, NY/Sachem High School East), to lead the No. 13 Pace University women's lacrosse team to a 14-4 victory over Southern Connecticut State University (SCSU) in Northeast-10 Conference action at Jess Dow Field.
 
FIRST HALF
- Junior Abby Haimson (Montville, NJ/Montville) started the scoring at the 28:36 mark for a quick 1-0 lead.
- Sophomore Courtney Pabst (East Patchogue, NY/Bellport) scored 90 seconds later to double the lead.
- Haimson scored again on the free position to make it 3-0 early on for the Setters.
- SCSU's Kennedy Sherman got the Owls on the board at the 25:02 mark, but that proved to be the last goal the Owls would score in the first half.
- Junior Casey Gelderman (Farmingville, NY/Sachem High School East) got on the board, followed by a free-position score for Pabst to make it 5-1.
- Gelderman scored once again just a few minutes later, and Haimson followed with two more to push Pace's lead to 8-1.
- Junior Angela Kelly (Garnerville, NY/North Rockland) got in on the action at the 10:22 mark to make it 9-1, and Haimson scored one more time with 22 seconds left to send the game to halftime with a 10-1 score.
 
SECOND HALF
- Gelderman got the scoring going just 16 seconds into the second frame to put the Setters ahead by 10.
- Haimson added her sixth of the day at the 22:39 mark to make it a 12-1 game.
- SCSU's Samantha Cozzolino got the Owls back on the board with 16:38 left in regulation.
- Gelderman notched her fourth of the evening at the 13-minute mark, but SCSU responded with back-to-back goals to get within nine.
- Gelderman made it a 10-goal game again with 5:58 remaining by scoring her fifth of the game.
 
GOALIE DECISIONS
Win: Alissa Silvestri (Congers, NY/Clarkstown North) (9-2)
Loss: Alexandra Takacs (3-9)
 
Goalkeeper Notes
- Junior goalkeeper Alissa Silvestri (Congers, NY/Clarkstown North) stopped 10 shots while allowing just four goals to pick up her ninth win of the year.
- SCSU keeper Alexandra Takacs made 12 saves, but allowed 14 goals to shoulder the loss.
 
SETTER STATS
- Haimson scored six times and dished out a pair of assists for a total of eight points to tie Gelderman's record set this past Saturday in a win over Saint Anselm College.
- Gelderman scored five times, and is now up to 150 total points in her career. She added seven ground balls, three caused turnovers and a pair of draw controls.
- Pabst scored twice and handed out another two assists for a four-point evening. She also grabbed three draw controls and two ground balls, and caused two turnovers.
- Kelly totaled two points on a goal and an assist.
- Junior Najmah James (Danbury, CT/Danbury) caused a turnover and picked up four ground balls.
 
OWL LEADERS
- Sherman scored twice to lead SCSU on Wednesday.
- Sarah Ciccia and Cozzolino scored the other two goals for the Owls.
- Carolynn Keal caused three turnovers and picked up three ground balls.

WHAT'S NEXT?
- Pace hits the road once again on Saturday, April 15, when the Setters visit Assumption College in Worcester, Mass. for another NE10 contest. The opening draw is slated for 1 p.m.
