No. 13 Pace Women’s Lacrosse Rolls to Record Fifth Straight Victory with Win against Queens

PLEASANTVILLE, N.Y. – The No. 13 Pace University women's lacrosse team set a pair of program records in Monday evening's 21-4 victory over Queens College at Pace Stadium. The Setters scored the most goals in a single-game in program history with Monday's 21, and have also set a new program record by securing a five-game winning streak.
 
FIRST HALF
- The Setters opened the game on a 3-0 run, with goals from juniors Abby Haimson (Montville, NJ/Montville), Casey Gelderman (Farmingville, NY/Sachem High School East) and Makayla McDermott (Greenlawn, NY/Elwood-John Glenn).
- Queens got one back, but Haimson quickly scored her second on a free-position attempt to make it 4-1.
- Queens' Lauren Gentile then netted one on a free-position attempt but the Setters responded with another three in a row, two from Haimson and one more by sophomore Courtney Pabst (East Patchogue, NY/Bellport), to go ahead, 7-2.
- Margaret Iavarone put one in the net for the Knights, but Gelderman scored her second just 32 seconds later.
- Sophomore Juliana Marcolini (Warwick, NY/Warwick Valley) gave Pace a six-goal lead, and then juniors Angela Kelly (Garnerville, NY/North Rockland) and Stephanie Chadnick (Brewster, NY/Brewster) scored back-to-back to close out the half with an 11-3 advantage for the Setters.
 
SECOND HALF
- McDermott opened the second half with a goal just 13 seconds in to make it a nine-goal game.
- Gelderman then netted her third of the evening to put the Setters ahead by 10.
- McDermott added a woman-up goal at the 22:44 mark to make it a 14-3 game.
- Pabst got back on the board, and then freshman Mary Kate Lonegan (Brewster, NY/Brewster) tallied her second career goal.
- Gelderman then put her fourth of the night past the keeper, and Haimson followed with her fifth to make it 18-3.
- Kelly added another before Queens' Patriece Ausili scored the lone goal of the second half for the Knights.
- Freshman Johnna Leone (Farmingdale, NY/Farmingdale) closed out the game with back-to-back goals to reach the final score of 21-4.

Win: Alissa Silvestri (Congers, NY/Clarkstown North) (5-1)
Loss: Basma Attieh (0-5)
 
Goalkeeper Notes
- Junior goalkeeper Alissa Silvestri (Congers, NY/Clarkstown North) stopped three shots to pick up the win on Monday.
- Queens keeper Basma Attieh made 11 saves and led the Knights with six ground balls.
 
SETTER STATS
- Haimson scored a game-high five goals and also caused a turnover in the win.
- Gelderman scored four times and grabbed a game-high six draw controls.
- Pabst totaled four points on two goals and two assists, and filled the stat sheet with a ground ball, a caused turnover and a draw control.
- McDermott finished with four points on a hat trick and a helper.
- Chadnick netted a goal and an assist, while Leone and Kelly matched her two points with a pair of goals apiece.
- Junior Emily Ankabrandt (Scotia, NY/Burnt Hills-Ballston Lake) handed out an assist and picked up five draw controls.
- Freshman Alexa Punzone (Lake Ronkonkoma, NY/Sachem North) led the Setters with four ground balls and three caused turnovers.
- Junior Najmah James (Danbury, CT/Danbury) caused a pair of turnovers and scooped up three ground balls.
 
KNIGHTS LEADERS
- Ausili had a strong game for the Knights with two goals, three ground balls and five draw controls.
- Lauren Gentile and Margaret Iavarone each scored in the game.
- Melanie Kahn picked up five ground balls and caused three turnovers.
 
HOW'D THEY STACK UP
- The Setters posted a significant 39-8 differential in shots, while claiming a 32-7 advantage in shots on goal.
- The Setters held a slight edge in ground balls, 22-20.
- Pace won the draw-control battle, 18-9.

- Pace hits the road on Wednesday, March 29, to take on American International College in Northeast-10 Conference action in Springfield, Mass. The opening draw is set for 7 p.m.
