MANCHESTER, N.H. – In its strongest offensive showing of the season, the Pace University women's lacrosse team defeated Southern New Hampshire University (SNHU), 19-11, in the Setters' Northeast-10 Conference opener at Larkin Field. In the win, junior
Casey Gelderman (Farmingville, NY/Sachem High School East) netted her 100th career goal, becoming the first student-athlete in program history to reach that milestone.
GELDERMAN REACHES MILESTONE
- Gelderman entered the day needing just five goals to reach 100 for her career, and was able to accomplish that feat in the second half of Saturday's victory.
- The junior scored 36 goals in her freshman season, and showed significant improvement in year two, netting 53 of them.
- Gelderman now has 11 goals in 2017 in just three games, putting her on pace to once again surpass her career-high mark.
FIRST HALF
- Junior
Makayla McDermott (Greenlawn, NY/Elwood-John Glenn) got thing started quickly, scoring 25 seconds into the game to make it a quick 1-0 lead for Pace.
- Sophomore
Emily Ankabrandt (Scotia, NY/Burnt Hills-Ballston Lake) then scored on a free-position attempt at 24:31, followed by a goal by sophomore
Juliana Marcolini (Warwick, NY/Warwick Valley) got on the board 15 seconds later to make it 3-0.
- Gelderman made it 4-0 at the 20:57 mark, followed by Ankabrandt's second of the half on another free position, giving the Setters a 5-0 advantage fewer than 10 minutes into the game.
- SNHU got the next two within 13 seconds of each other to cut the deficit to three, but juniors
Angela Kelly (Garnerville, NY/North Rockland) and
Abby Haimson (Montville, NJ/Montville) got two right back for Pace to push the Setter lead back to five.
- The Penmen got another two quick goals, but Gelderman scored again off a feed from Haimson to make it 8-4.
- Alexa Bedell netted a man-up goal for SNHU, but sophomore
Courtney Pabst (East Patchogue, NY/Bellport) became the seventh Setter to score in the game to push Pace's lead to 9-5.
- SNHU got another back to get within three, but Gelderman scored once again, followed by two in a row for sophomore
Kylee Scott (Baldwinsville, NY/Baldwinsville) to close out the half with a 12-6 lead.
SECOND HALF
- It took nearly eight minutes before either team could score, but the Setters got on the board first when Gelderman netted her fourth of the game to make it 13-6.
- SNHU responded with its best run of the game, scoring four goals in a row to get back within three.
- Pabst halted the run with a goal at the 10:31 mark to make it 14-10 in favor of Pace.
- Gelderman and Pabst then scored another pair of goals for the Setters, making it a six-goal game once again with 8:24 left in the half.
- Haimson then added two in a row to make it a 5-0 run for Pace and an eight-goal lead.
- Marcolini then netted her sixth of the game to make it 19-10 with fewer than five minutes left on the clock.
- SNHU ended Pace's 6-0 run when Merry Harrington scored at the 2:30 mark.

Goalkeeper Notes
- Silvestri got the win after making 11 saves between the pipes on Saturday.
- Olansky shoulders the loss after giving up 12 goals and stopping 5 shots in 30 minutes in net.
SETTER STATS
- Gelderman netted five goals for the second straight game, and also led the team with five ground balls and five draw controls. She also caused a pair of turnovers.
- Pabst led the Setters with six points, scoring three times and assisted three others. She also had team-high three caused turnovers.
- Haimson scored three and assisted one more for a four-point afternoon.
- Marcolini matched her four points with two goals and two helpers.
- Kelly scored once, scooped up four ground balls, caused a turnover and grabbed a draw control.
- Ankabrandt scored twice on free-position attempts, and also grabbed three draw controls.
- Scott and McDermott each registered two points, Scott on two goals and McDermott with a goal and an assist.
PENMEN LEADERS
- Bedell and Ellen Decker matched with two goals and two assists apiece. Bedell also grabbed a game-high six draw controls.
- Alexis Felt scored three times.
- Merry Harrington added a goal and a team-high four ground balls.
HOW'D THEY STACK UP
- The Setters outshot the Penmen, 41-30, including a 32-25 advantage in shots on net.
- Pace was good on 14-of-17 clear attempts, while SNHU converted just 6-of-10.
- Both teams were even with 19 ground balls and 16 draw controls.

WHAT'S NEXT?
- Pace finally gets to play in front of the home crowd at Pace Stadium on Tuesday, when the Setters host No. 18 Bentley University in another NE10 contest. The opening draw is slated for 7 p.m.
