No. 14 Pace Women’s Lacrosse Fires on All Cylinders in Defeat of No. 19 Bentley

PLEASANTVILLE, N.Y. – The No. 14 Pace University women's lacrosse team turned in an all-around highly-impressive team effort to roll past No. 19 Bentley University, 15-2, in Tuesday evening's Northeast-10 Conference matchup and the Setters' home opener at Pace Stadium.
 
FIRST HALF
- Bentley's Paige O'Neill got the Falcons on the board quickly with an unassisted goal just 31 seconds into the game.
- The Setters then exploded for 10 straight goals over the next 20 minutes to sprint out to a commanding 10-1 lead.
- Sophomore Juliana Marcolini (Warwick, NY/Warwick Valley) tied the game less than a minute after Bentley's goal, and then junior Abby Haimson (Montville, NJ/Montville) added another two minutes later to give Pace a 2-1 lead.
- Junior Makayla McDermott (Greenlawn, NY/Elwood-John Glenn) scored 30 seconds later, and then Haimson netted her second after another 62 seconds to make it a 4-2 game.
- Junior Casey Gelderman (Farmingville, NY/Sachem High School East) then got on the board off a perfect feed from Haimson at the 24:13 mark.
- Sophomore Courtney Pabst (East Patchogue, NY/Bellport) put in the next two goals to put the Setters ahead by six.
- Haimson then scored her third and fourth of the game before junior Angela Kelly (Garnerville, NY/North Rockland) capped off the 10-0 run at the 10-minute mark.
- Bentley's Ellie Shuman got the Falcons back on the board with 5:08 left in the half, but the Setters took an eight-goal advantage into the locker room.
 
SECOND HALF
- Flashing an incredible defensive effort, the Setters were responsible for all five of the goals scored in the second half of Tuesday's Top-20 battle.
- Junior Stephanie Chadnick (Brewster, NY/Brewster) fired in her first of the year with an impressive shot from right in front of the net to put the Setters ahead, 11-2.
- Pabst then flashed her speed to score back-to-back goals to push Pace's advantage to 11.
- Gelderman then found the back of the net the final two times for the Setters to close out the 13-goal win.

Goalkeeper Notes
- Junior goalkeeper Alissa Silvestri (Congers, NY/Clarkstown North), fresh off receiving her second straight Eastern College Athletic Conference (ECAC) Women's Lacrosse Defensive Player of the Week award, stopped 11 shots while allowing just two goals to pick up her third straight win.
- Bentley starter Lauren Ochs was replaced by Eliza Bresler with 10 minutes remaining in the first half.
 
SETTER STATS
- Pabst led all scorers with a total of seven points on four goals and three assists. She also scooped up three ground balls and grabbed two draw controls.
- Haimson scored four goals and added an assist for a strong five-point game.
- Gelderman netted three goals, picked up three ground balls and caused two turnovers.
- Chadnick scored her first goal of 2017, picked up three ground balls and caused a turnover.
- Freshman Alexa Punzone (Lake Ronkonkoma, NY/Sachem North) had a solid defensive game with three ground balls and two caused turnovers, while juniors Dominique Harloff (Mount Sinai, NY/Mount Sinai) and Emily Ankabrandt (Scotia, NY/Burnt Hills-Ballston Lake) each also caused a pair of turnovers. Ankabrandt also picked up two ground balls and snagged two draw controls.
 
FALCON LEADERS
- O'Neill and Shuman accounted for each of the Falcon goals in Tuesday's contest.
- Kathleen Gillespie had a game-high four draw controls.
- Bresler scooped up a team-high three ground balls.
 
HOW'D THEY STACK UP
- The Setters owned a 28-18 shot advantage in Tuesday's win, including a 25-13 edge in shots on goal.
- The Setters picked up 22 ground balls, while the Falcons managed just 12.
- Bentley held an 11-8 advantage in draw controls and a 9-7 lead in free-position attempts.

WHAT'S NEXT?
- Pace continues NE10 play when the Setters host Saint Michael's College on Saturday, March 25, at Pace Stadium. The opening draw is set for 4 p.m.
- Saturday will also be the Setters' annual Pace Goes Pink game, sponsored by Northern Westchester Hospital, when SAAC members will be accepting donations and in exchange, fans will receive a special edition Pace Goes Pink – Playing for a Cure t-shirt. All proceeds will go toward raising funds for the Northern Westchester Hospital Breast Institute.
